Beautiful place to stay
This hotel is a hidden gem. We were delighted with our stay there. The restaurant could be busier but that was the only thing. The lake is amazing. Rooms clean, location is great. This will be my hotel for Reading from now on

Great location, staff and cleanliness let it down massively!
Absolutely loved the scenery, location was great!
Staff were rude, the chef was awful and had an awful attitude towards us when we asked why it was taking more than an hour for our food he had a paddy and a disgusting attitude towards his guests! The staff seemed like they had no customer service skills whatsoever!!
The room was average but was very dirty in the bathroom and the hotel phone was disgusting!
The balcony and the lake were the best parts
I would only stay here again if the hotel changed hands to a more professional name and had a complete make over - including the staff!

Run down, aged room. Huge disappointment.
A very neglected hotel. Wallpaper coming off of the walls, furniture scuffed, very worn and dated. Limescale build up on the bathroom fixtures and the hot water tap was too hot to touch/use. A limp pillow was given which had to be folded in half to offer any kind of support. The TV remote had never seen a clean and the floor hadn't seen a vacuum. Would rather have spent an extra £20 a night and stayed in the Hilton in Reading.

Gone down hill since being the Copthorne
It's been four or five years since I'd last stayed here for the Reading festival. What a difference in that time. The hotel has gone from having a definate luxury feel to it to beiing a tired looking hotel that belies its age. Carpet held down with gaffer tape, peeling paintwork, stained ceilings, moldy window frames, roof covered in moss and lichen, outdated TV service, threadbare furniture, I could go on. The chamber service was bare minimum and the restaurant was staffed by a single waiter who was simultaeneously running the bar. Notably less festival going staying here than previous years, no wonder it one of the hotels that still had vacancies.
The chap on the front desk was very courteous and helpful but the overall standards of the hotel are sadly on the decline. Shame because the setting on the lake is really beautiful.

breakfast was poor. served with overcooked mushrooms,
The rooms need refurbishing and regular dusting as ours was smelling of dust and the bath tub was not draining freely,
