The worst 4 star accommodation I have ever stayed in
I would firstly like to put into context the reasoning behind our trip. It was my finances 30th birthday stay and with us both being teachers.... We needed a bit of a break from an exhausting wedding planning schedule. Therefore I looked towards her Cheshire routes (we are both living in the the north east). After staying at a few de vere hotels over the years carden park struck me as an ideal destination. Paying 300 pounds sterling for 2 nights B and B was a little excessive. However, it's a four star hotel, so I proceeded. The following day after seeing the same hotel with another company on the same date with a 2 course meal each night I tried to cancel the booking with laterooms. Surely as a consumer, if you are not happy with a product purchased you have a right to return the product? Well the answer was no after speaking to an operator at laterooms.... Tough was their exact wording.
So, after learning this, we had to try and accept that were vastly overpaying for a worse product than another 3rd party company were offering. We arrived at the hotel and checked in, after receiving a map and keys we moved to our room. A very tired annex. Frustration kicked in. To pay what we did and stay in an annex, which is nowhere near the quality for a four star hotel, I was disappointed to say the least. I contacted reception straightaway and explained my concerns. They said that they were due a refurb very soon and had no room to move us that evening. So my finances surprise weekend away was going from extremely bad to worse. Reception explained they would see what they could do in the morning. So we decided to call it a night. At 4am we were both awaken by our neighbours next door. I'm sure they were just enjoying their weekend away and have every right to. But the paper thin walls made sure we couldn't sleep. I contacted reception as we were kept awake for an hour and they paid our neighbours a visit (not our neighbours fault I would like to add).
In the morning we awoke and went for breakfast, a much better experience. Nice buffet with good service. I then spoke with the manager, who was lovely and moved our room into the main hotel. This was of a similar quality but more solid walls, still not 4 stars in comparison to every other in the country that I have visited. The manager arranged for the transfer of our bags. After a day out we returned to the hotel and our new room. The manager had a bottle of prosecco on ice waiting. A gesture.
In the morning we had another nice breakfast and checked out at 9am so we could get home asap as this break was more stressful than relaxing.
To summarise, and I would like to add I'm generally an optimist and never complain. But this experience was dreadful and I would partly blame late rooms for this, not allowing us to cancel with a full refund due to overpricing the product in comparison and the reviews that I read prior to the break.

short break
A good quality room reasonably priced on offer would be a little too expensive when not on offer.

Everything you need at this hotel, lots to do if you want to. If I'm being picky bathrobes and shower cap would have been made use of.
