Good bargain hotel
The hotel is simple and comfortable rooms were clean but basic, shower very intermittent and slow stream.
Rooms on front of building have lovely seaviews although there's a lot of building work going on right outside on a new lifeboat centre and restaurant so rooms on front very noisy from 7am.
Staff on desk very polite and keen to assist but no sign of manager as wanted to discuss room rates as this should really have been on an offer for 3 nights for price of 2 but management withdrew this over phone so we only stayed 2 nts for £95 which although it's not too high it was far too much for this hotel. no way was it worth £40plus per night especially in low season whilst they're we saw much higher standards of accom in modern hotels for £20 per night. there's a lift but to be honest you need to be brave to use as very old and claustrophobic and makes very odd noises so I chose stairs but for those less mobile wouldn't work.
Having stayed at the Monarch for many years, I always expect the quality of service to be of the highest standard, and it never lets me down.
There have been some changes in personnel since my last visit, but this has not detracted from what I expect.
