Tiny piece of plastic in the cauliflower cheese
There was a tiny piece of plastic in the cauliflower cheese, not an issue for me but for a toddler may present issues.
The room was also quite small and dated but everything worked. At about £70/night that is still reasonable value for money. They forgot to charge me for breakfast which was quite a good spread.
Nice venue, but disappointing food / staff and hidden charge
I stayed at Horsley Park for 1 evening.
The venue is nice and tidy, with good facilities. The room was pleasant enough for the price paid. However, having travelled all day, I was extremely disappointed with the restaurant staff and offerings. Firstly the restaurant receptionist was pretty rude and talked down at me as a guest because I hadn't booked a meal with them in advance (sorry but most hotel restaurants you can just turn up to and have a meal). When she did show me the menu, it was a set 3 course meal, with very limited choice. You couldn't even choose a basic steak and chips for example. Instead I was shown to the bar to have something of the bar menu instead. the lady behind the bar was much more friendly and helpful, and so i ordered a rogan josh curry. The presentation of the food was nice, but the food was basically just chicken in a tomato sauce, not exactly a curry. Very disappointing with the whole food situation in general. I didn't take the breakfast option, as it was an extra £20 on top (ridiculous breakfast charge for any hotel!) . The final insult was the hidden charge of £2.50 for a credit card booking. When I queried this with the reception staff, they said this was there terms and conditions, but this was not highlighted at any point upto checking out. No notes on this when booking or even when I checked in / pre-authorised my credit card. The reception staff that morning were very unhelpful and unwilling to be flexible on this charge.
Its a terrible shame customers are treated so poorly, for what is actually a nice venue. I personally will not be staying at this hotel ever again.
