Poor room and food
We booked through late rooms as the hotel looked lovely.
Upon arrival we were given a courtyard room which was a tiny, with a bathroom more suited to a retirement home than a hotel. There was a tiny window, so very little natural light. There were a couple of sachets of soaps and shampoo. We spent the evening in the bar and ordered food. The Thai green curry wasn't Thai green curry, it was a jar of something dumped over grilled chicken next to the worst rice I've ever been served. For this we waited nearly an hour. There were no other customers waiting either.
I'm sure if we had been given a room which was on the website it would have been a different experience as they do look lovely. The courtyard one though was horrible. A lot needs to be done to make the food edible,
Night before racing
We booked to have a good night's sleep before an HSCC race day.
Friday traffic from London was dire, so phoned ahead to say we would be late. On arrival the receptionist could not have been nicer, and seeing our fatigue put us in a suite rather than the booked courtyard room. Lovely original features, Edwardian furniture and black out curtains. Bathroom with huge bath. We slept well and breakfast was excellent. I preordered for my husband and it was kept hot for him on return from early practise. The staff were more than accommodating and we had a warm welcome and lovely stay. However, we like old buildings and original decor, not everyone does, this is not for you if you want choc on pillows and spa toiletries.
