Not the night to visit and stay as they had a wedding reception on and the guests were not too considerate to other guest's peace and quiet.
Not a relaxing night at all.
I stayed in the Lymm Hotel about two years ago and whilst not the best experience then, I decided to give it another go as I'm in the area every week and was looking for a change of scenery from my regular hotel.
Given the fairly high room rates I was under the impression that there must have been some upgrade or refurbishment to the bedrooms to justify the price, unfortunately I was wrong. Granted they actually were painting the main restaurant area, the bedrooms had their usual `tired' and rundown feel. I stayed in the main building, the bedroom was an acceptable size but the floor going into the bathroom was at a slant and uneven, the carpet was old and smelly, the bathroom was small and basic and there was dust on the surfaces. Just generally giving an unkempt feeling to the place. The restaurant experience wasn't great either. On arrival there was just one chap serving food at 7.30pm and I was made to wait a good 5 minutes standing before being attended to. The starter of a Goats cheese tart wasn't a tart at all, simply a soggy slice of puff pastry with some goats cheese on top and being asked for £6 for this did wrankle with me. The main course was worse with the whole Plaice very disappointing, cold, bony with very little flesh on it and a sprinkling of tough green beans to accompany it along with some nice new potatoes which were actually the only good thing about the main course. Service was very poor and when my main plate was cleared I wasn't even asked if I would like a dessert or coffee and after waiting for 20 minutes with an empty glass I decided enough was enough, asked for the bill and departed. All in all this is supposed to be a MacDonald Group Hotel which in the main my experiences of have been fairly favourable but The Lymm falls short of this standard and does not reflect value for money. If they wish to charge premium rates then the standards and service need to reflect this.
