The Filthy Kettle
I was surprised when they asked us to pay on arrival but then realised why when I saw the room.
The room was disgustingly filthy. There was mould around the sink and the carpet was sticky. Surfaces were greasy and sticky. Towels had a layer of dust on and when opened were dirty. The mattress had dirty stains on and we slept with our coats on for fear of contracting a disease from the sheets. For £55 I wasn't expecting The Ritz, but a basic level of cleanliness would have been nice. We declined breakfast due to our concerns about basic hygiene but accepted a pot of tea. the teapot had a thick layer of dust on and when we attempted to wipe it, the tissue was covered in grease. This really was the dirtiest place we have ever stayed. We're not snobs either and have roughed it on a few occasions but we would never stay here again.
quirky and quaint
stayed here aug 2016, we had room 1(double with en-suite) overlooking the street, the room was very big and homely if a little dated and tired (which didnt bother us at all), and the bed was large and very comfortable, pam and pete were very attentive and friendly, if you are looking for the ritz then this place wont be for you,but if your looking for a quaint and quirky old building with quaint and quirky fixtures and fittings then this will suit, the meals we had were freshly made and very nice, the location was excellent, all in all we had an enjoyable 3 night stay,, a slight downside would be the noise from the pub next door spilling out onto the street,
