Great Location but unfortunately can't recommend the hotel
I was very disappointed with many aspects of the visit.
I was showing a friend some of the Northumberland coast for the first time and paid a lot for the room which looked very good on the website, but didn't match in reality. We were situated in the annexe above the waste bins and up some fire escape steps. The room although clean was very small with a cupboard you couldn't open without falling back on the bed, dripping taps and a smell of sewerage. The initial welcome from the staff was very poor - rather than being greeted at the door we had to struggle through the crowd at the bar and it was made obvious by staff that we were an inconvenience rather than valued paying customers. It was an occasion when I wanted to impress my friend with the hospitality of the people in Northumberland (having holidayed in the area for 50 years) and I was left with a really disappointed and hollow feeling. The cooked breakfast was good, but it was served straight away and no mention was made of the cereals and fruit juices which I spotted almost on leaving. I sent an email to the hotel, but the response rather than being apologetic was defensive and stated 'it is unfortunate that you were a late arrival on one of our busiest nights' - (we actually arrived at about 6-7pm!) I can't remember making a complaint about a hotel in the past, but feel I need to on this occasion as I wouldn't want other travellers being disappointed, and hope it will help improve customer service in the future
