On the whole, thumbs up

We stayed while visiting Glasgow for a Coldplay gig.

Front desk staff were brilliant, gave us a number of taxi numbers and very useful. Only bad bits were the communal corridors on 1st floor could do with re-painting as were a tad shabby, which is a shame since the fairly recent refurb was a big plus. We only had breakfast, which admittedly we were late to get to (about 9;30am), but cooked breakfast buffet was about on its last legs. A great selection for full scottish breakfast though never the less!

Big Disappointment

Booked overnight stay for weekend getaway.

We were really looking forward to staying as we had our wedding reception here seventeen years ago. Receptionist very helpful and efficient. Initially everything looked okay... However as we made our way further down the hallways to reach our room, the decor looked very tired and shabby. On entering our room (which we were told was refurbished) we were extremely disappointed to see scuff marks on walls.... We could have lived with that, however it was the sight of the double bed that had us horrified. Because there was no valance, we were treated to the sight of a ripped, dirty, stained bed base. The foam underneath showing through in parts. Since this was appalling I decided to check the mattress... It was filthy, grubby, stained and actually ripped through to the springs. I'm sure it was providing sanctuary and food to millions of bedbugs!. We asked for a manager to come and see, and while he was apologetic, his reasoning behind the state of the bed was due to how it had been stored during refurbishing. I did point out that while the room may have been looked like they were still using the same beds from seventeen years ago. We were informed that the hotel was full therefore a room change was not possible. We decided not to stay and requested a refund. The same receptionist was very polite and apologetic and we received our refund without a quibble. Given it was late evening we were lucky to locate a room with a nearby rival hotel. I hope our complaint is acted upon as the bed was a shocking disgrace... I've seen beds in better shape in a skip!.
