About the hotel
Restaurant & Rooms. The Seven Stars Inn, dating from 1724, is a traditional English country Inn and restaurant located on the edge of picturesque Shincliffe village. Staying at the Seven Stars is all about relaxing and enjoying great freshly prepared food using the best seasonal local produce along with fine wines from our hand picked list or one of our real ales.
The Inn offers 8 en-suite bedrooms (6 double and 2 single) all with freeview TV, tea and coffee making facilities and free wireless internet access. Located only one and a half miles from the centre of Durham city and Durham University, we are ideally placed for that short or long break visiting the wonderful cathedral city and experiencing the sights and sounds of North East England, a region that is steeped in culture and history. Please note that we are unable to take bookings from guests wishing to attend late night functions requiring access to bedrooms after midnight. Guests arriving back in the small hours of the morning are not compatible with regular guests who value the Inn for its peaceful ambiance. Our restaurant is closed on Mondays but our sister pub in the village (located just 5 minutes walk away) is open and we will be happy to offer you a table there.

Old Inn with some character on quaint old High Street, great for visiting Durham.
My wife and I stayed at The Seven Stars Inn for a 3 night break.
The staff were friendly and helpful, and the food (breakfast every morning and dinner on one occasion) was good. The building has real character, with fires - fake gas coal effect, but still nice & warm & cosy - in the lounge and dining rooms, and lots of dark wood paneling throughout, inc. narrow upstairs corridor. Upstairs smelt a bit of cookery odours, and door-locks could do with an upgrade. But we enjoyed our stay, and we were even slightly surprised at how easily and well we slept given that below is a pub lounge and dining room. The pub is situated right in the crotch, so to speak, of a Y-junction, formed between the A177 to Durham and the old High Street of Shincliffe. This latter is really lovely. If the weather's good - and we had two gloriously sunny days - despite there being no garden, it's pleasant to sit outside. Would happily visit again, and would definitely recommend.
Excellent service, friendly staff, ideal for night out in Durham City without paying carparking and overpriced hotels, short walk by riverside into city centre.
