Give this one a miss!

We booked this room through as a room only for 129 pounds.

When we arrived we were walked out of the main hotel down the driveway to the back of the hotel and shown a room under the decking. The room was damp, had what appeared to be mould on the bedroom wall, there were holes in the wall in the bathroom but the worst part was the excessive deodoriser that had been sprayed in the room. It made it extremely difficult to breathe and I could not stay in the room without coughing excessively. My reaction was so bad, I considered going to hospital. On request, the staff moved us to another room in the main building. This room was a significant improvement, was carpeted and did not have the same odour. I didn't react to this room. When we got the receipt from the hotel on check out it stated "dog friendly". We had not booked a dog friendly room on Laterooms and had we known that's what we were going to get we would never have chosen the hotel. This explained the poor condition of the first room, the deodoriser and the reaction I had. Laterooms should also make an effort to notify customers of anything that may impact on their health.

In addition, we also noticed at check out a small sign behind the reception. The hotel had been served with a boiled water notice by authorities. At no time was this brought to our attention and we had used the water directly from the tap. Thankfully we did not get sick but this was very troubling and negligent in my opinion. I would never stay in this hotel again knowing that is so dismissive about the health of its customers. So glad we didn't eat there!

Lovely Lochsideside location

We had a very comfortable stay for one night.

The drive there was picturesque, and it was a good distance from Fort William to be able to get to the 10:15 am steam train without having to get up too early. The appearance of the building was a bit worrying - the flag flying out front was very torn and faded, the approach to the entry (stones) was difficult to roll luggage on, the balcony from the dining room overlooking the Loch was unsheltered.
