An excellent stay, modern facilities, and good customer service.
I was impressed by the facilities, for the price
Generally good, although definate room for improvement
On arriving the reception desk had 3 staff, but no-one seemed interested in booking us in and left us standing there waiting.
The room was nice, the pool and gym were lovely as usual, however the breakfast although nice, was a little chaotic, no juice glasses, no sausages, no eggs, everyone running around, one waiter came running through the door with eggs and bumped right into a guest. Also even after speaking to the hotel, and them saying they couldn't do a better price, a few days later all prices were reduced, which was annoying.
Mercure Exeter Southgate Hotel
Lovely weekend break in Exeter.
Hotel excellent central to walk everywhere. Relaxing hotel with everything you could need. Will definitely visit again.
Mercure Exeter Southgate Hotel
Very good customer service...
Room was great not a bad word to say.
A very comfortable, clean and modern room with an excellent shower.
Despite a refurbishment taking place to the bar/restaurant the quality of food and service was still good, provided in an alternative room. would definitely stay here again should the need arise.
Sadly we booked this hotel because of the pool only to find that it was out of use due to refurbishment and was not informed beforehand.
This massively spoilt our stay.
We came to Exeter to go to a gig and meet up with our daughter.
This hotel is right near the Cathedral but not noisy. We had a superior bedroom with a lovely super king bed, great as we are both very tall. Breakfast was delicious too. Only criticism was that the waiter whisked plates away before both of us had finished. Its polite to wait for both couples to finish eating. Wanted another day there.
The location and entrance to the hotel was fantastic.
Upon entering the room with my wife we were disappointed that the tele didn't work, once I complained to reception we had an engineer to the room within 5 minutes (great service). Once the engineer had left and we started to unpack, we noticed the poor state of the room. There seemed to be crayon drawn all over the carpet, there was severe water marking on the ceiling and the furniture was marked/chipped. I found the staff to be pretty blunt and not very welcoming, upon returning to the hotel we were told that the bar facility was unavailable and that we had to go to a temporary bar (which was literally a hatch in the wall) and order drink, after being sent to and fro from reception and bar (to add credit to our room) we finally got two drink to take to our room. In the morning, we had breakfast delivered to our room, and without going into to much detail, it wasn't very nice, it was just generally sub standard to any hotel I have stayed at before.
Great night for us and kids
We spent only 1 night and chose the Mercure hotel because it had a swimming pool.
We took my niece and her friend with us they are only 6 years old and they had a great time. The hotel seems very exclusive and very presentable but at the same time is very family friendly. We took the kids swimming in the evening from 18.00 until 20.00. they loved it. Hotel staff were very friendly and the room was a very good size. Breakfast was very very good. For an extra £20 it was well worth it, a self service buffet with a great amount of variety and options to choose from and very tasty. We would all visit this hotel again. £120 for 1 night inc breakfast does seem a lot but with the facilities and quality it is well worth it.
