Reviews - Old Ship Aground

4Self Classified Inn Ratings explained
Quay Street, , , Minehead, TA24 5UL
The Old Ship Aground is an historic edwardian pub located on the harbour in Minehead. Spectacular views across the harbour to the Quantocks and Wales, the location is idyllic. You can be sure to find a variety of Real Ales and Ciders in the pub to accompany our traditional pub meals and 'river cottage style' dishes. Parties for up to 100 can be catered for in a private dining room. Glorious summer evenings can be spent in our outside areas and for the winter the roaring fire attracts a locals and visitors alike. It's 12 bedrooms are all individually decorated and offer a variety of single, double, twin and superking size beds. All rooms have flatscreen freeview TV, are ensuite and have tea and coffee making facilities. Minehead is the gateway to Exmoor, the first of Britains national parks to gain the Dark Skies reserve status. Days can be spent exploring the moor, seeing the wild Exmoor Ponies and Red deer and when the sun sets the night skies are spectacular. There are a number of attractions easily accessible from the pub, The West Somerset Railway is within walking distance as is Minehead Golf Course. A short distance away is the medieval village of Dunster which has a magnicent castle and is a fine day out for all the family. Bossington and Selworthy are charming National Trust Villages and Porlock is another popular village closeby.

Friendly Atmosphere
Enjoyed stay, friendly staff, good food.Description of room having a harbour view doesn't mention that this is over the back yard complete with recycling dumpsters.Obviously not the fault of The Old Ship but the rude awakening at 6am on Wednesday morning by the very noisy recycling crew was not appreciated.

As far as the food goes if you don't like game then there is not a lot of choice.

Had a very relaxing break at the Old Ship. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Accomodation and view was superb. Can't wait until September when we go back there for a week this time.

Room 10 is a bigger than average single room with a glimpse of the sea. Very comfortable and clean. Friendly staff. Good breakfast. Excellent location in the old harbour.

First time in Minehead
Warm welcome and shown to room quickly. The single room was adequate, the linen was of a very high standard with a nice large bath towel, and the bed was very comfortable. Pity the partition walls were a little thin insomuch as the turning on and off of lights etc in the rooms next door and in the corridor could be heard before slumber took over. As for the food, excellent, with a good choice and served quickly and efficiently without being rushed, just a pity that there was no room in the restaurant and I had to put up with a table in the bar as though I was having a bar meal. A good selection of 'real ales'. As for the cost, within my budget for one who spends a lot of time 'away' at weekends and has to fund it all from a pension. Splendid location 'on the quay wall' at the quiet end of town with room to sit outside and watch the world go by. As for 'would I return?' Yes.
