Reviews - The Rest and Be Thankful Inn

4Self Classified Inn Ratings explained
Wheddon Cross, , , Minehead, TA24 7DR
This popular Inn and restaurant is in the centre of Wheddon Cross, the highest village on Exmoor, and a perfect base from which to explore this beautiful National Park. The Inn was originally a staging post for travellers on their way between Dunster and Dulverton, and you will still find a warm welcome, good food and extremely comfortable accommodation awaiting you there today, almost 200 years later. Whether you are looking for a relaxing break in beautiful surroundings, or a more active holiday, the Rest and Be Thankful Inn and Exmoor are sure to meet your every need. Wheddon Cross, as its name suggests, sits on a crossroads near the centre of Exmoor. From here you have easy access to all parts of the National Park. The medieval village of Dunster is 6 miles away, with the seaside town of Minehead a further 3 miles. The pretty villages of Selworthy and Bossington in the National Trust owned Holnicote Estate are worth a visit, as are Winsford and Exford. If you are looking for a walking, cycling, or fly-fishing break, we will do everything we can to provide you with the perfect holiday. There is a secure store at the Inn, where cycles and other equipment can be kept, and we also have a drying room for wet clothes and boots. Horse riding and hunting can be arranged with prior notice.

Experience impaired by grumpy host
It's cold and wet and windy and you're tired. There's no phone signal and the wifi is limited. It would have been great to be greeted with warmth and friendliness. Unfortunately, something is bugging mein host. He scowls, hurumumphs and generally behaves as if you're an imposition on him. Shame. The rest of his staff are lovely and the accomodation good value and pleasant. Come on chappy, cheer up!
