Could have been better
We couldn't fault the service or the food, but felt that the white room furniture was a little shabby.
The decor of the first floor was very austere and could have used some flowers or ornaments of some kind. Had to move the bedside tables in order to find the plugs for charging phones and iPads. We were the only guests and should have had a quiet stay, but it was spoiled to an extent by one of the resident dogs who loved to bark all the time, even late into the evening. This was mentioned to the housekeeper. Felt the frontage of the lovely house was rather spoiled by the sight of furniture (awaiting repair?) piled up behind the windows, which could be seen from the outside. This could be a lovely stay if the house had a little more care and attention. Having said that, the bed and furniture was comfortable and overall experience reasonable.
Beautiful Syon House
Syon House is beautifully furnished, a real treat.
Breakfast was delicious. Our superior garden double en suite booked for 3 adults turned out to be a standard double room with a foldable bed squashed in. Lovely place for a couple's weekend retreat, not for families.
This was a quick break away for myself and my husband, we spent more than we normally would on a B&B but for a special treat, it was worth every penny.
Syon House is beautifully maintained and decorated with chic and quality. Claire, the owner, is very friendly and relaxed and makes a smashing breakfast. The view over the Otter Valley from our bedroom and the terrace where we had breakfast could not be beaten. I would have no hesitation in recommending a stay here and will definitely vist on our next trip to East Devon.
Short break at Syon House
This 3 day short break with my wife at Syon House was exceptional, the accommodation was excellent and the breakfast was nothing but superb, sitting outside in brilliant sunshine looking a the stunning views.
Claire was a very welcoming host, who made sure we had everything we needed, the relaxed atmosphere and very comfortable surroundings/faciliities made for a very enjoyable break, we will certainly be going back.
We arrived late in the afternoon and were able to relax for a few hours on the sun-trap patio with a glass of wine, whilst admiring views of the stunning countryside.
Claire, our host, recommended a good local restaurant for dinner and even took the trouble to telephone and book a table for us. Next morning we were treated to a real plateful of good English breakfast, after a comfortable night in a very well appointed room. We will definitely stay again!
