An aquatic sports centre with basic overnight accommodation not a hotel with aquatic facilities
Read the negative review which stated rooms were not ensuite but a following comment said the rooms had been upgraded, however, on arrival the allocated room wasn't ensuite & when I requested an "upgrade" the receptionist said yes there were ensuite rooms but he didn't have the authority to change my room.
The beds were basic steel framed with mesh base & thin mattress, maybe ok for kids but not adults. Also no wi-fi in the room. This is an aquatic centre with overnight accommodation not a hotel with aquatic facilities, and in order to give a balanced review, the price was cheap, rooms were very clean, got a cooked breakfast instead of the expected continental & the sea front location is beautiful, however, don't expect luxuries!!
Don't use the coffee machine the drinks out of it are awful and there are no facilities in your room for making, tea, coffee etc.
Coming back around 11 pm I found the main door to be locked and had to wait until a security guard opened it for me, I was not informed about this procedure when I booked in. Hot water in the morning take a very long time to come through for the showers especially if you are getting up early.
What a gem of a place!
Having to make an emergency trip as my father was ill I looked around the city for hotels or b & b's and stumbled across this place.
I thought compared to the average hotek asking price of £90 I thought that for £40 a night this would just be the average hostel sort of room. How wrong was I. I arrived to check in thinking it would be just a bed in a room with shared toilet and shower blocks (as I had read on other reviews) to be told that it was ensuite now. Result. The room had a large double bed, bunk beds, tv, kettle & a large bathroom with shower. The views were incredible especially at Sunrise and Sunset. Hardly any noise at all and easy access into plymouths barbican area via a small boat taxi. I would with out a doubt choose this place as my stopping place from now on. For the sake of 40 quid it was luxury.
The Mount Batten Centre
Does what it says on the tin
Everything was as describer, great value for money, simple and basic.
The jewel in the crown however was the receptionist, absolutely world class, I just wish I had noted her name to thank her publicly. Fantastic service with a smile - thank you
It was more like a Hostel, no bathroom, small uncomfortable beds, noisy at night.
Poor ventilation. Not suitable for business travellers, but for youngsters and water sports groups. Quite far from the city centre.
Clean, basic but very good value
If you're looking for a hotel then book a hotel, but if you're looking for a good value place to sleep then The Mount Batten Centre is ideal.
Very friendly staff, who were keen to help. I came here as my son had an interview at Plymouth University at 9 in the morning, and we didn't fancy a 4-hour drive to get there for then, so we stayed here. The only thing that I was a little disappointed about was that the bar wasn't open on the night of our stay, but we went next door to the hotel instead.
Good accommodation, good value for money.
Excellent breakfast in the morning!
