Innkeeper's Lodge Exeter, Clyst St George
Very satisfied with hotel accommodation, food and staff.
We just stayed for one night as had something to go to locally.
Upon arrival we waited for ages for a member of staff and in the end my wife wandered round the pub to find one. The girl was very friendly and helpful which made up for the wait. We went to our room but straight away there was an awful damp smell and the bathroom had a wet room style shower like you get in hospital and it was filthy. My wife went and asked to change rooms which they kindly obliged and apologised. We went to our new room. Luckily there was no damp smell but the bathroom was just as disgusting. We actually took pictures. The showerhead and tiles haven't been cleaned in a long time. The dust and dirt around the room was not great either. The bed side lamp hadn't seen a duster in a while. As we were in a hurry and had a taxi booked in less than an hour to go out we just had to put up with it and reasoned all the rooms were probably like this. Luckily it was just a bed for the night as were out but thats not the point and at £76 for the night I would expect a much higher standard of cleanliness. We weren't able to tell anyone upon check out either as again nobody around but just a box on the counter to put your room key in on the way out. I must admit I thought it was oddthey made me pay for the room upon arrival rather than checkout. That way you've paid before you've seen the room!!!
Very good all round
Problems with Shower
On arrival there were no towels in the room.
This was quickly sorted out. Shower did not Work. In the morning when we both tried to shower there was virtually no water coming out of the shower rose. After some investigation it appears that the shower hose was blocked/restricted. This was very unsatisfactory and totally unexpected as presumably the previous occupiers of the room had the same problem
We reported this to the manager but he made no gesture to compensate us and said he would look into it.
We will not be visiting this hotel again.
Couldnt complain on hospitality.
Room very dark and warm - Appreciated the fan. Seems like last guests were hot too. Found a coke bottle propping open the window !!!. Bed was far from comfortable unfortunately.
accommodation was of a very good standard, the staff were very friendly, the food and service was very good and I would stay here again.
We have stayed in this hotel before....about 4 years ago, and then ,as this time, the bed was horrendous.
you can feel every spring and each time my husband turned I could hear the springs playing a tune. My husband slept with 3 pillows placed singly down the bed to cushion the springs!. The last time we stayed the hotel had just been refurbished, and having complained, we were moved to another room, having been told that they were new mattresses.
Fortunately our business won`t take us to Exeter in the foreseeable future.
Such a pity that the beds were so naff....the food was DELICIOUS and the service faultless.
poor value for money
The room I was given was small and gloomy with dingy décor.
The bedside lamp was like a glowworm so when wanting to sleep, I had to get out of bed to turn off the room lights which I had been obliged to leave on to read. The bathroom was sloppily decorated and poorly laid out. Th3 breakfast included in the room bill was awful, bad quality bread and stale croissant plus ersatz jam in a gloomy room. Staff very friendly but could not make up for one of the nastiest stays I have had.
Bed and pillows very soft. Service was friendly but slow. Food was adequate but not what I expected looking at previous reviews.
Very comfortable acomadation
I have been staying here for years good rooms , pleasant staff (even to this idiot ) nice place to unwind over dinner and a drink or two .
