De-stress break spoilt
Having a tacky fare plonked in market place during our visit was not very nice. The hotel was ok, nothing exceptional despite the reviews we'd seen elsewhere. The room had shower over bath which isn't ideal. The tiles therein on the floor had loose grouting which I had to pick up and put in the bin. We were staying two night and bed was only 'made up' again (poorly) and sheets were changed. Despite the fact I'd deliberately left them down to show I'd managed to spill coffee drops on the bed sheet. We ate in the restaurant on our first night, it was 'ok' and fairly good value two courses and a bottle of Malbac for £72.10 was ok as stated but not as good as some reviews had said. We paid dinner B&B the breakfast area had canteen feel and food was self serve and very mixed quality on the Saturday. We ate that evening and staff arranged taxi which was nice. However our experience on Sunday was genuinely shocking! We arrived for breakfast and started helping ourselves at the self-service counter. A woman appeared from behind the counter and asked "Room number?" I said the room and continued to decide what looked edible as it all appeared to have been sat awaiting us for some time. I then heard said woman confront my wife who'd sat down at the table to read the menu being confront loudly and accusingly by the same woman "You're room only! You haven't paid for breakfast!" This was in front of all the other customers and she looked so embarrassed I thought she may cry, as she looked to me querying. (Irony was I booked & this was a recovery break for her after a very stressful term). I protested that we had and was countered "Can you prove it, have you got your receipt?" I said "Yes, on my phone" and was asked "Can you show it then?" I struggled to open my mail and find the reply from Laterooms, probably no more than a minute before she gave up and said "I'll check if you have at reception!" and left us. Angered I sat down and with seconds had found the email and went to show her at the reception counter. She demanded: "You'll have to make it bigger, I can't see that". I did and she asked "Who did you book with" when I said Laterooms she said "I think they're the ones who don't notify us" and waved me away to continue my breakfast but she did not apologise. I was so shocked I really couldn't say anything as I really couldn't trust myself as to what may come out! I sat there fuming trying to eat a breakfast that you'd need to be very desperate to want to eat for free and certainly was not worth the £12.95 each e.g. a fried egg which had been on the hotplate for so long it was very crisp on the bottom! I really wish I could have been calmer but I was so upset and angry I couldn't even comment at reception when checking out. I think we spent arond £375 in total at the hotel when we really should not have spent a moment there!
This was a pity as most of the other staff were very nice and friendly, in particular the young bar man. Nonetheless I really couldn't recommend this hotel unless you really had to stay in Kings Lynn!

Comfortable, quiet and good value
This is our second stay at the Duke's Head in King's Lynn.
They have both been very pleasant with good friendly service. The first time we had a meal which was ok but not memorable. More important was the comfort and a good nights sleep.
We will be booking here again on our next trip.

My Stay
My room was clean and compact but ok for one person. The staff were very helpful. The food was first class and as I was eating alone they did not sit me in the middle of the room but against a wall. The bar area was warm and comfortable.

Dukes Head suite
The room was very clean and comfortable and the decor and furniture was fresh new and in good condition. We were going out for dinner so didn't eat in the restaurant but the menu looked good. Overall the hotel is now very good.

noisy
Room was great but external noise terrible. Cheaper room so nearer to adjacent roof and constant fans and motors going all night. if you stay again make sure it's on 1st floor as I would presume not so noisy

Lovely stay
Really nice stay, lovely inside the hotel even if not so well looked after on outside. Room clean and comfortable. Breakfast was a bit disappointing and not worth the money we paid for it. Other than that really enjoyed our time away.

A little disappointing
My wife and I had a 2 night stay here and were a little disappointed. We knew a couple that had stayed here and said the rooms were very good however on opening the door to ours we were very much left deflated. Nothing special and nothing a budget hotel room has.
I felt staff were to busy to attend to us had to wait a long time at the bar to be served no staff also phoned from the room to make a dinner reservation fine but reception never told the restaurant. Once we told the restaurant we were here sat in the bar area and was left there, no menus, staff never came to get us so not great service.
Will proberbly not be staying there again.

Expected higher standard
Never stayed in a Legacy Hotel and first impression very nice. Standard greeting on arrival but found it strange when asked to pay for stay immediately at check- in was advised any additions would be charged at check-out. Room was spacious and comfortable. Cleanliness, towels, bed linen clean however voile curtains could have done with a wash, there was a cobweb above headboard and found dead spider on floor so clearly needed a more thorough clean. Maintenance needed reviewing lots of scuff marks around bedside tables and wardrobe doors. Left same comments on departure.
