Very dated and requires decoration .
A Christian retreat so may feel slightly a fish out of water as prayers were said at dinner and one night they were due to take a collection ( Cheque) for a charitable cause
sidholme hotel feedback may 2014
My husband and I booked a evening at this Christian hotel as we were staying in Sidmouth for an early anniversary treat.
We were not expecting a great deal as we had purchased the room very cheaply £37 and really just wanted a bed for the night in Sidmouth as both love the beaches there. We were extremely pleased at arriving at the Hotel. The grounds and gardens were really beautiful as we walked up to the reception to book in. The hotel is old fashioned but quaint. Man on reception was very friendly and polite. Our room was in the side annexe- not in the main hotel-it was basic with tea and coffee making facilites but spacious and very clean (rooms a little tired- but surrounded by gardens so all we could hear was bird song.)
We had the pool all to our self in the evening and it was extremely clean and warm and fresh towels available. Next day we wandered through the garden which was so pretty. We will definitely book to stay there again and probably pay more for one of the superior rooms. Thanks for a perfect stay. Very relaxing.
We stayed in a room in annexe for 3 nights over Easter.
The room had shared bathroom facilities which were clean and very adequate. I had a lovely bath one night after walking all day in the rain. The hotel is set in beautiful and relaxing grounds which are a delight. I really enjoyed swimming in the lovely indoor swimming pool. All the staff were very helpful and gave us fresh milk for tea/coffee. A very friendly and relaxing place to stay.
lovely hotel but room left a bit to be desired
We booked the hotel room quite late and to be fair we did get it cheap.
The hotel is in a beautiful setting with lovely gardens. On the evening of our stay there was some sort of school musical festival on in the main hall which meant that the hotel had a feeling of being very busy. The room we were allocated was adequate for our one night stay. However we would not have wanted to stay there any longer. The wall between us and the adjacent room was so thin that we could clearly hear the conversation of the couple in this next room. As they conversely would have been able to hear us we kept our chatting to a minimum. I also found the single bed to be quite uncomfortable. I was happy to have paid only £38 for the room but would not have been happy to have paid the normal rate of in excess of £100.
ensuite double room
The room we had, was positioned at the furthest end away from reception, involving walking down what seemed like endless corridors.
As we walked a smell was constantly present which i later discovered, was due to being above the kitchens. However the smell was reminisent of hospital kitchens, bland and heavy. The smell was present in the room we had, but after 24 hours with the windows open it had reduced. The room was small and would be better suited for a person on their own. The decoration looked very tired with woodchip wallpaper on the walls, the bed was old,the bathroom facilities very tight to move around in. However , the sun shone and the view out of the window of the garden was very pleasant. The external appearance of the building together with the gardens were very pleasing to the eye.We used the pool, but only 3 or 4 could use at one time if length swimming was involved. . Overall we had a very pleasant time and the location of the place was within walking distance of the town.
we really enjoyed our stay here; we had not realised that the hotel was set in large gardens, and most enjoyed listening to the birds singing, and hearing the tawny owls at night.
We appreciated the quiet, and the old style elegance.
Beautiful hotel and garden
Room was warm clean and comfortable, with view of the beautiful garden.
The pool was excellent with towels provided. Will stay again
I stayed here because of its location close to work.
There were set meal times, and consequently I missed breakfast and the evening meal. On the plus side it was well priced and clean. The staff were very helpful and polite. There are a few local pubs within easy walking distance which did food. If staying in the winter, bring a torch, as the drive is unlit.
Good clean comfortable hotel, no TV but close to the Town and all services.
A real gem
Yes this hotel is a little dated, but it is such a joy to stay in a little bit of history.
We spent one night here and made full use of the lovely pool and the extensive gardens.
