Well that surprised us!
Arrived late Sunday afternoon on Fathers Day, which clearly had been well celebrated by the locals.
The Bar area itself was old style farmers boozer, slate floors and scrubbed tables, but hidden away was a very nice, comfortable dining room, which was a complete contrast. Our room was spacious and comfortable, well maintained and provided an excellent nights sleep. The food was good, the staff excellent and friendly and our breakfast kept us going well after lunchtime. A most enjoyable stay and one we would recommend others try.
a good sleep over
Very good service in a very pleasant old world atmosphere.Lots of beams, mind your head, and rustic charm with modern facilities.
Not a good experience all round - smell of fresh paint in the room was overwhelming; the tv didn't work although the landlord replaced; the room was very cold at night, i.e.
heating turned off centrally; no breakfast served before 8am (useless for a business traveller); no hot water in the morning. I'm sure this accommodation would be ideal for a romantic break, but definitely no good for a business trip.
One night stay
Really convenient accommodation to enable us to attend a wedding locally.
Staff were really helpful, even offered to take us to our destination as no local taxi firm would pick up the phone!
Ok for 1 night.
We stayed here for 1 night to visit family nearby.
It was a late booking and pleased we found somewhere close, for a reasonable price. Arrived late after an extremely tiring 7 hour journey from the North. Warm welcome but rushed and weren't given full lowdown on what, where etc. Room was extremely small and cold, as the heating wasn't on in the evening nor when we woke, although the room was nicely fitted out for a small space, with nice furnishings and exposed original beams. Bed was comfy, but short in length - hubby had to sleep with legs curled round there was a fixed bed end. The bathroom was adequate in size with basic fittings, but the shower was very disappointing. Mould on tiles and on ceiling. The shower head desperately needs de-scaling or replacing as water spouts out from sides and flow is intermittent. Breakfast was at a time of our choosing, which was a good to hear, so no rush. Breakfast was ok, but nothing special.
It has to be noted, that there are other rooms in the pub and I can only review our room and it's no reflection on other types available. The pub's restaurant was busy when we arrived and although we didn't eat, the food looked excellent. It was also lovely and quiet during the night. Staff were pleasant and welcoming and on the whole it was fine for 1 night.
Overnight stay whilst family celebration
Traditional style Pub with much history.
Room was small en-suite small shower poor and cubicle mouldy due to poor ventilation (needs regular treatment/repaint) quiet night sleep and excellent breakfast although lacked fruit choice. The food appeared to be of a high standard and the surroundings in bar and restaurant area were very comfortable.
Would stay again
A lovely location and a beautiful 18th century building with oodles of character.
The room was clean and spacious but on the down side, the cold water tap in the bathroom sink was not working and the shower fitted over the bath was lacking power. Overall the room was okay, clean and well presented. The food was absolutely superb and the service very good. Would definitely recommend a stay here.
'How a Pub should be'
We have now stayed here twice and it has not let us down with it's friendly service and great food it is first class along with a lovely 'olde world' room to rest your head you will find it hard to beat.
We will without doubt be back again.
What a wonderful place to stay!
The pub is provides comfortable accommodation in a quiet location.
The food was sublime and made the stay much more of an event than purely a convenient overnight stay. Ideal if you have transport to get to local towns. I will go there again.
