3Self Classified Small Hotel Ratings explained
Lakeview Manor Dunkeswell, HONITON, EX14 4SH
Nestled amid 45 acres of picturesque parkland with 3 fishing lakes, this charming hotel boasts a tranquil and relaxed environment within the natural beauty of Dunkeswell, Devon. During your stay at Lake View Manor you can enjoy a stroll through the surrounding meadows, listening to the birds and admiring the beautiful trees and wild flowers. Alternatively you can explore the 3 private lakes, where you can often see leaping carp. After a long day of exploring the area, you can return to the friendly and welcoming Manor to enjoy traditional home-cooked meals in a relaxed environment. After dinner, why not sample the locally brewed Otter ales in the bar, for a true taste of Devon.

Whether you are here for a short break, holiday or business trip, you'll find 17 comfortable rooms to suit individuals, couples and families. There are excellent facilities and idyllic views, perfect for families, fishing trips or last minute getaways.

The Restaurant at Lakeview Manor is open to residents and non-residents. Guests can enjoy fresh local produce in a relaxed atmosphere, both lunchtimes and evenings. The 'hog roasts' are fast becoming legendary, with a whole west country pig roasted on a spit, and serving upto 80 guests at a time. Pride of place on the well stocked bar is a selection of locally brewed Otter Ales offering a true taste of Devon, full of individual flavour and aromas.

The main lake at Lakeview Manor covers two acres and is well stocked with carp, tench, rudd and perch. Both fishing lakes are open to residents and club members only. There are many outstanding sea-fishing venues nearby. Particularly recommending the mackerel fishing or booking a boat trip from Beer, Exmouth or Lyme Regis, nothing quite beats deep-sea fishing for an exhilarating day out. Devon has over 40 golf courses to choose from including Heath, Parkland, Links golf and a championship course at Saunton Sands. The hotel is happy to arrange trips for Golf Societies including club recommendations and bookings.

Peaceful Quiet Retreat - but.....
Had we known the room was up an EXTERIOR flight of steep steps, we would not have booked to stay here. Luckily it did not rain. The gardens are beautifully kept, but seating around the fishing lakes would be nice. Our room was ok - it could have done with some holes being filled in behind the TV & there were scuff marks & scratches behind the beds. Firm mattress, but bedding was a bit cheap.
Lovely bathroom though. Dinner was not a good experience. We waited 40 minutes for the meal to be served, with no apology. When we ordered there were only 2 other people in the restaurant! One of the meals described as a Char Grilled Chicken Burger turned up as a chicken fillet between two slices of sort of crusty toasted bread. The new potatoes had been reheated from lunch by the look & taste. The waiter said he ' did not understand ' what I meant when I said it was not a chicken burger! Again no apology. The management seemed to be non existent.

Great Place To Stay.
We found this an excellent place to visit, Hotel was in it's own grounds which provided peace & quiet after our travels, an ideal place to unwind & enjoy the excellent views, accommodation & food.

Fine for the reduced price
Lovely setting and approach to the main hotel. As we were the only guests staying that evening, there was not a great deal of atmosphere, although staff were helpful and attentive - particularly so at breakfast. The room was fine for the "late booking" reduced price we paid, but I would not have been happy paying the full advertised rate. The beds were a bit lumpy and pillows bit thin, with no spares in the wardrobe. Should have mentioned it really, but as the room was in the chalet section - not the main building it felt remote and a bit late by the time we discovered this. This section of the hotel felt a rather run down, facing onto some grotty sheds and building works - the exterior of these rooms could do with a face-lift.

Lovely country hotel, the lakes looked beautiful even in January would love to see in the summer. The food was yummy and plentiful and not over priced. The room was cosy but ideal for a romantic break.

Great Find
Lovely place - quite remote and a couple of narrow roads (lanes!) to get there. Very relaxed but staff attentive & helpful. Seems to be popular with those who know about it.

A Turn Up For The Books
First impression was that Lakeview was quite small for a manor. Our room was functional, but the bathroom somewhat dated
LakeVIEW--the views from the windows of our room were poor, and the room was situated next to the kitchen extractor fan.
HOWEVER, the bed was really comfortable, and condusive for sound sleep. The breakfast was excellent. The grounds quiet and beautiful.

This hotel is lovely, we had an excellent room with views across the lawns down to a lake. Top VFM
A lovely hotel in beautiful grounds. We will return for a relaxing weekend away.
Breakfast was very nice, not stodgy like many hotel breakfasts, cooked to order.
Now that we have found this hotel we shall be looking forward to going again in the future.
Highly recommended
