3Self Classified Self Catering Ratings explained
Applehay Church Green, Semley, Shaftesbury, SP7 9AU
Applehay Studio is set on the Dorset, Wiltshire border in a rural setting in the middle of a traditional picturesque village green.
It is directly opposite a friendly village pub, which dispenses real ales and home cooked food. There are also many other eating establishments within a 10 minute drive.
The Studio has a view of the village pond and is surrounded by many acres of common land, with walks and cycling from the door. It is an ideal rural retreat for a couple wishing to explore the area. We are 5 minutes from Shaftesbury with it's famous Gold Hill, half an hour from Salisbury and 8 minutes from the A303.
We also have wireless broadband connection.
Sorry no pets allowed.
The Studio is not suitable for children under the age of 8 yrs and due to the spiral staircase and low ceiling height upstairs, the studio is not suitable for people with mobility problems.

Very private, comfortable home.
This was a very unusual B&B, the accommodation was a self contained one up-one down 'Dolls House' next to the owners garden. You had your own kitchen, lounge, dining room and bathroom downstairs with a spiral staircase leading to the bedroom upstairs. Can't fault the presentation or facilities, we definitely had everything we needed and would have been comfortable for far longer than the 2 days we were able to stay. There was off street parking and an outdoor table and chairs in the garden to make the most of the weather. Tall guests beware, the ceiling is a bit low upstairs, but I am 6feet tall and coped without problems.
The place is in a tiny and perfectly sleepy village, we enjoyed an early morning run, commenting how peaceful it was. There are marked walks on the doorstep but we would warn nervous drivers that this may not be the best place to rely on your sat nav; ours couldn't tell the difference between normal two lane B roads and single track trails! The amenities of Shaftesbury are only about 5mins drive away.
The owners were friendly and full of advice, breakfast was provided but not cooked, which we took as a positive as we could eat when we wanted. We both did say it would have been improved by some meat and cheese but options were not really limited for a continental set up.

ManagementResponse

In response to the above review I would like to list everything we offer for a substantial continental breakfast provided for guests to help themselves too. This is based on a 2 night stay for 2 adults: 2 fresh Croissants each morning, 1 small wholemeal loaf, pack of organic butter, Tiptree marmalade, Tiptree Strawberry jam, honey, marmite, half a dozen eggs, 4 Rachel's Organic fruit yogurts, 4 pint organic green top milk, large fresh orange juice (Innocent or Tropicana), big choice of different cereals (whole variety pack of Kellogg's cereals, Alpen and Weetabix), bowl of fresh fruit (4 bananas, 4 Braeburn apples, 4 oranges). Plus there is breakfast tea, Earl Grey tea, roast ground coffee, instant coffee, instant decaf coffee and sugar available throughout the stay. As food is used it is topped up on a daily basis. If guests wish to replace any of the above for something else then please request at time of booking by emailing Applehay Studio.
