About the hotel
Hillside House is a beautiful building dating from the 1790s, though parts of it are much older. According to local tradition it was once a dairy, and the oldest part may date from as early as the 1400s. It is listed (Grade II) as a building of historical interest.
The building has been used as a bed and breakfast since the 1940s. Situated on the East Lyn river at Lynmouth, our guest house is ideally suited both to the needs of walkers or those of a less strenuous disposition. We are 400 yards from the South-West Coast Path it is the perfect position to explore an abundance of coastal, riverside and woodland scenery: rugged cliffs, secluded bays, the Exmoor moorland, the Doone valley, Porlock and Watersmeet. Have a gentle stroll around the village itself with its enchanting harbour, quaint fishing cottages and interesting shops. If you prefer you can take a boat trip from the harbour, along the Heritage Coast, or go up the water-powered cliff railway to Lynton and visit the Valley of Rocks. There are a choice of riding stables nearby. Like many old buildings it has settled a bit and you will fail to find any walls or floors which are straight or corners which are perfectly square. For many of our guests this is part of its charm. The décor sympathetically combines many original features with bright, tasteful colours and period furniture. Each centrally heated room has freeview television, hair-drier, tea/coffee making facilities and either en-suite or private bath/shower room. Double, twin or single rooms are available. Free wifi.

Homely ,good value guest house
The room was small with a tiny shower en-suite but we were made aware of this at booking and also by the owner when we arrived and as it was for one night only,so quite acceptable.I would not have wanted this room for longer. The room had a TV,tea making facillities and a small dish of sweets..which was a nice touch and unexpected.
Thw guest house is very 'homely' not a bit prentious and the owner gave us a warm welcome on arrival. She was able to recommend pubs & restaurants to visit..as we had arrived late and needed a meal. Our breakfast was delicious..a complete 'full english' and plentful.Really good.It set us up for our long journey home. The dinning room ,however, seemed rather cramped. The guest house is situated right next to and overlooking the road, and access to the front door is up some steep stairs.Someone with a disability may struggle to climb them, although obviously there is a strong hand rail for support. There isn't any car parking but we were able to park in the road in an allocated parking space over night. Virtually opposite the guest house is a public car park. Our room was very quiet so we were able to get a good sleep, having enjoyed a very good meal in a pub by the harbour and well within walking distance of the guest house. We and enjoyed our stay would be very happy to go there again.
Beautiful riverside stay
The hotel was easy to find and near the centre of Lynmouth.
Roadside parking was easy to find. Our hostess was very friendly and welcoming throughout our stay, and although our room was small it was fine for us, with a good en-suite shower and loo. Breakfast was really lovely and perfectly cooked; we would recommend Hillside House to anyone.
