About the hotel
Fourteen minutes from Bath and set in rolling green, Somerset hills, this 700 year old inn has much to delight - it is a feast for the eyes and boasts every traditional comfort. Character bedrooms with beams and antique furniture, cosy bars, an ancient galleried courtyard, and wonderful food (We strive to source our produce locally and endeavor to make everything here on site) served in a choice of beamed dining rooms. The George, a grade one star listed building is situated in an idyllic setting with beautiful views.
Our garden overlooks the village church against a backdrop of un-spoilt rural scenery. In the adjoining field there is a children’s playground. The Plaine Guesthouse also forms part of the business and has been refurbished in a contemporary style and the six rooms have been added to the accommodation offer in Norton St Philip. Should the rooms at the George be reserved you will be directed to the rooms at the Plaine. The Plaine does not accept dogs. Norton St Philip village is a real find as it has come through the centuries remarkably undisturbed. Architecturally, you can see mullion windows, stone-tiled roofs and the local stone facings of the cottages. There are medieval buildings and a number of cottages built in 17th and 18th centuries. The local country side is intersected by footpaths and bridleways which are great for walks and discovering our local wildlife. The George is dog friendly, and there is a small charge of £10 extra for them to stay with you in our wooden floored rooms. The George Inn and the Plaine are in a stunning setting and a perfect location for a varied and interesting break. Safety: The George Inn is over 700 years old, we ask you to take care as there are many low beams and uneven and cobbled floors.

Friendly, efficient ,caring staff made the stay memorable.
Good accommodation in annexe across street from the hotel, modern, smart and comfortable Food very good and exceeded our expectations
and all the staff seemed to want us to enjoy our stay with them. Will certainly stay here again if we are in the area.
Full of character....
The photographs on Laterooms give you some idea how old this building is.
If you want to stay in a hotel full of character this is the one for you. All the modern conveniences but I still felt I was back in time. The room we stayed in had old wooden floorboards, beams and a four poster bed. It was like the rest of the hotel, amazing. We had an evening meal and breakfast ( Breakfast was included in the price). All the food was served hot and was excellent. All the staff were really nice and friendly. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone!
