About the hotel
Moorlands is located on Dartmoor just below Haytor Rocks, one of the moor’s best known landmarks. It was in this comfortable country house setting that Agatha Christie wrote her first book, The Mysterious Affair at Styles, in 1917. There are 33 bedrooms which look out over the eight acres of grounds and the rolling Devon countryside beyond.
Facilities include a spacious lounge and bar, a dining room with views over the garden and a Dandelion Café serving drinks and light meals. From Moorlands you can reach both the high moor of Dartmoor and the beaches of the south Devon coast. Walks on the moor can explore its wild beauty and take in many prehistoric sites; there are also opportunities for mountain biking and rock climbing. For a more relaxed stay you could take a river trip along the Dart to the pretty town of Dartmouth, visit Widecombe-in-the-Moor or Buckfast Abbey, or travel on the South Devon steam railway.

Did not meet expectations
We were completely unaware that this is an HF house and there is nothing to indicate this on your website.
Although we are familiar with HF others may not be and may not appreciate the concept. There was nobody to check us in and the room was dated and floor unhoovered. The bed had not been made properly and the duvet cover was torn in two places. The mattress was rock hard. However the communal breakfast was very good with efficient and friendly service. Location is excellent at the foot of Hay Tor.
