Retreat from the November rain

HF always manages to give a friendly and relaxed but professional welcome, especially to an older guest travelling alone.

HF holidays specialises in activity and special interest breaks and a bridge holiday was in full swing when I arrived, but staff ensured that I didn't feel awkward and fellow guests would probably have taught me to play bridge if I had been there a day or two longer. As it was I enjoyed a comfortable night's stay and excellent breakfast. I need to return sometime to sample the cherry jam.

What a great find ...

I was delighted with Abingworth Hall, we were struggling to find somewhere close to Goodwood to save a three hour drive but had left it rather late.

Abingworth Hall was a little gem, Heather couldn't have been friendly or helpful. The rooms are what you would expect of an older property and the stairway was just wonderful. Very clean and good wholesome food, with wine served at very reasonable prices. The weather wasn't the best and so we didn't manage to use the swimming pool but it looked very welcoming. I would absolutely stay here again.

One night stay...

Knew nothing about the place or the area but was very pleased with what l got.

However just a couple of minor complaints, nothing serious, insomuchas l asked for a lower room because of my problems with too many stairs and for a room with a shower as l cannot usually use a bath and apparently the Hotel had NOT received that info before l arrived. I therefore ended up on the second floor and with a bath but fortunately it was not too much of a problem though not what l really wanted but booking only a few days beforehand what l wanted might not have been available anyway but the fact that the Hotel did not know about it means why was the question asked in the first place by LateRooms if they were not going to pass it on. Otherwise the stay was very pleasant.

A relaxing retreat

The Hall is rather out of the way and thus suits those who are looking for a very quiet break.

The downside to the location, is that if you wish to travel anywhere, you'll need a car. For example, I made a mistake of returning from Chichester to Pulborough station (arriving at 9.15 pm) to continue my journey back to the Hall, using a 100 bus service. Little did I know that this 'service' finishes at ca 6.30 pm. It took three hours in the dark (along country lanes (without pavements)) to walk back. So, if you use public transport, check timetables before-hand. The upside to my stay, was the cleanliness of the Hall; the overall pleasantness of the staff and the excellent break-fast. I would certainly recommend Abingworth Hall to others.

Trip was linked to visit to Goodwood revival.

Property is a holiday fellowship establishment in a quiet location.

A. Very pleasant overnight stay. Pleasant grounds and good conservatory with bar ( serving some good local real ales n bottles ) Breakfast was very good with a range of choices. Room was comfortable although bed very soft but this a personal choice. Establishment runs walking or touring holidays so expect to see an organised group. Only one minor gripe , could not get coffee from bar, had to use room facilities otherwise would recommend.

A great find

This was a perfect B&B experience during a visit to the area.

The house is lovely, set in grounds with a picturesque lake, in a very quiet position. A very warm welcome from Heather, and lovely and warm on a cool day with the heating on. The room was fine, all extras were there including refreshment tray, tissues, toiletries. The twin beds were very comfy, immaculately clean bedding, and the room was really quiet. Breakfast was excellent, the service was very good. A lovely large lounge and conservatory, and a smaller drawing room, all added to the country house atmosphere. Just a word about the bathroom: it was quite basic without any embellishment, obviously suitable for people with reduced mobility with a large low shower tray, unfortunately this means that the water goes everywhere and there was quite a lot of black around the tiles and skirting. Also no lid on the loo. I'm sure this will be in hand, it just needs more tiling instead of paint and skirting board.

I would definitely go back though, and would also investigate other HF houses as an alternative to a 'traditional' hotel. The difference is the lovely warmth and personal attention.

We enjoyed our stay at Abingworth, although we were not aware that it mainly caters for HF Holiday leisure breaks which encompase walks etc.

However this did not spoil our stay. Just a couple of small points to mention, there was no shower in our bathroom & the sink did have some mould at the back. On the whole though we really enjoyed it & my husband took advantage of the swimming pool.

Abingworth Hall - West Sussex

Outstanding location - delightful and welcoming hostess.

Unfortunately spent only one night at this stunning country house hotel, and did not have time to sample the cuisine - but what a superb place. HIGHLY recommended for its charm and character.
