Budget hotel let down by poor food and silly re booking price hike
Arrived at the Cisswood after a very long days work, very tired and very hungry.
The restaurant menu was limited, and the restaurant was empty. I chose a Mushroom Risotto as a main. This turned out to be a small puddle of gray, mushroom flavored creamed rice with some burnt rice crispies sprinkled on top for £16.50. For the first time in my life I complained that this did not constitute a meal. The next night my shower stopped working so I had to move rooms. When I checked out at the end of the week, I asked t re book the following week for 2 nights and was told instead of the £45 a night I had paid, it would cost £60 a night. I asked why the price was higher and was told that different weeks have different tariffs. However, when I checked online the room is available at £45 per night. I will stay somewhere else i think!
Lovely relaxing stay, there was a wedding there but we didn't hear a sound, went swimming in their lovely pool and jacuzzi.
Most relaxing stay ever. Great breakfast in bed.
Over-priced and very tired looking
I last stayed in this hotel about 25 years ago.
When I checked in it looked just about the same as last time. The public areas and corridors looked very tired and old, as did the furniture. Although it was claimed by my reception that my room had recently been redecorated the style was very uncoordinated and mediocre at best. I expected significantly better for £130 a night. The food in the restaurant was of relatively good quality but well over priced, as was the wine, which did not seem that good - I've had much better for less money (we tried two bottles in our group and neither impressed). The service at dinner wasn't good either - the wine bottles were just plonked on the table with no attempt to open the bottle and offer a tasting. Not 4 star standard at all. The management need to do a much better job at training the staff. The hotel does have a swimming pool which would have been a plus point for me had I known in advance, but the overall impression of the place was of poor maintenance. For example: my room looked out of a flat roof with ductwork that had insulation peeling off - it was in very bad condition. I would not choose to stay here again unless everywhere else was full.
Hotel is very tired and in desperate need of refurbishment
Very tired, expensive for what you get.
In my opinion a hotel is a treat, a little bit of luxury. This hotel offers neither. Our room was smelly, mismatched furniture (4 poster bed with a brown mdf wardrobe) all corridors are grubby, worn and had the radiators on full (on a sunny day in May) The plug broke in our bathroom which required a maintenance man, at 9.30pm. Really couldn't be bothered by that point. Do yourself a favour, there is a beautiful hotel, less than a mile from this one, and would have cost me an extra £70 for the night, I wish I'd paid the extra and gone there.
Excellent all round
I had a very warm welcome and was dealt with in a friendly efficient manner.
All staff were very helpful and gave great service and I felt nothing was too much trouble. My room was well equipped and I slept well without disturbance. I would recommend this hotel to anyone and would stay again without doubt.
Nice staff, rubbish food
Food was horrible, chef could not cook.
The staff were very friendly and helpful, they made the stay pleasant. room was nice but the gym and pool are not what they look like on the photographs
