Reviews - The Star and Eagle Hotel

4Self Classified Inn Ratings explained
High Street, Goudhurst, TN17 1AL
Once an ancient monastery. The Star and Eagle dates back to the 14th century. It offers charming accommodation in the Kent countryside, 20 minutes drive from Royal Tunbridge Wells.

Much of the old stonework is still visable throughout the building and guests can admire the extensive brickwork, wooden beams and open log fires whilst dining in the bar or restaurant.

A wide-ranging menu is available, including Tapas, Seafood and Meat dishes. There are also vegetarian options to choose from. Guests can also dine outdoors in the summer months, with picturesque views of the Kentish Weald.

Rooms at The Star and Eagle have carpeted floors, seating and TV's. Free Wi-Fi is available in the public areas and there is free parking on site.

Situated just 2 miles from the A21, the hotel is a 35 minute drive from the historic town of Hastings and a central point for all of Kent's Garden & Castles

Great hotel
My husband and I were having a rare night away to celebrate our anniversary and we weren't disappointed with this hotel. The staff were helpful and the room beautiful, if a little low-ceiling ex for my 6'2" husband!! We ate in the restaurant and the food was delicious.

a very comfortable hotel
we stayed at the Eagle and Star for 4 nights in July, we had a very enjoyable stay, our room was a fair size with views over the weald of Kent, the standards of cleanliness were for the most part very high, although the bathroom did need a bit of attention around the bath fixures and the shower head constantly slipped down the pole making showering a bit of a trial, but on the plus side the towels were changed each day and the complimentry tea coffee and biscuits were replenished each day, we did have a problem at times when we opened the window, as the room was situated right above the patio area where smokers gathered especially during the evening, and cigarette smoke often drifted into our room which could be unpleasant at times. The food in both the restaurant and bar was superb and we happily ate there for the duration of our stay. there is plenty of parking at the back of the hotel though it can be a bit confusing finding just how to get to it. Goudhurst village is a bit limited for any sightseeing as it mainly consists of a long street divided by a very busy road, so we did need to drive out every day but that said a lot of Kentish attractions are within a 10 mile radius including the pretty town of Tenterden and the beautiful NT gardens of Sissinghurst. all in all we had a very enjoyable stay

Charming hotel in a pretty village
This is a very charming traditional inn in a very beautiful hilltop village. I found the rooms very comfortable. Though the main road runs past the front of the building, the double glazing kept out the noise very well - and the road was quiet at night. I enjoyed my one night stay very much.

Really 'old world' hotel with quaint corridors leading to bedrooms. Rooms spotlessly clean. Lovely village with a number of pubs and restaurants.
Great area.

Convenient for Goudhusrt, lovely staff.
Hotel is in a good location with plenty of parking at the rear. Tv was not working in the room but did not spoil our stay. The room was nicely decorated and suffiently clean, but when you look closer the room, corridors & outside areas need a good dusting - mainly the skirting boards & woodwork. That said the breakfast room seemed cleaner. The breakfast was a good standard with varied choices. In general the hotel is above average but I think it probably does well as there is lack of other accom in Goudhurst. The staff are all lovely, very helpful & courteous.
