Excellent value for money

This is a budget hotel that exceeds the standards of many others of a comparable price.

I stayed Monday to Thursday when the club downstairs was closed. It was nice and quiet, and my bed was so comfortable I struggled to get up in the mornings. My room had a view of the cathedral which was a nice bonus.

Basic but clean and OK

We received a lovely welcome and check in was fine.

Stairs to the rooms are quite steep so I opted for a room above the club on the 1st floor. My colleague opted for the 3rd floor. We were warned it could be noisy - but actually the club below the rooms is not open every night. For me, the boom - boom - boom was actually quite soporific. We had a good supply of biscuits / tea / coffee - the room was very clean - although a light bulb was out. I was however, very cold and mentioned this to the owner the next morning. The bathroom had a very low ceiling over the bath (not a problem for me), and no heat source ... brrrrr. The bedroom had a heater on a timer - 30 mins - 1 hr - 2 hrs, but only the 30 mins option was working in my room. Going into student mode - adding socks, hat, jumper etc to my nightwear was the solution. Despite all this - I did sleep, which I hadn't done in another more expensive hotel the previous night!
