Watersmeet Country Inn
I never usually take the time to write a 1 star review, but I wish I had never booked here, there is a premier inn a 10 min drive away which is way better.
You arrive to an unlit lobby with a fire alarm panel which is in fault and disabled and a poster saying you should ask at the bar for your room key. The barman had been left on his won to run the place with only 3 days on the job. He took some time to find out how to find our keys. There is no WiFi in the rooms, just in the bar which is only open during pub hours. The rooms are not that clean, and the bed in my friend's room was totally worn out with broken springs and not fit to sleep on. Money was taken out of my account for both nights on day 2 without my consent. Overall, totally unacceptable.
Watersmeet Country Inn
Keys are allocated at the bar next door (separate ownership I believe).
The 20 year olds running the bar and restaurant cannot answer any questions regarding room allocation, check out , or handle rebates for prepaid breakfast if you if you wish to leave before at least 8.30 a.m. (Breakfast is not available before 8.00 a.m. and if less than 2 or 3 people want breakfast not at all). Owners are not resident and do not provide their own staff to handle check in or any problems. If you wish to raise issue before you leave --no one is available before 8.00 a.m. The Bar/Restaurant next door provides good food and a pleasant atmosphere. The worst hotel we have ever stayed in!!
Don't go there !!
Booked two rooms, got there and could only provide us with one.
Slept the night with my girlfriend in a double bed!. Sheets were dirty with hairs in the bed. The room was dirty and the food was disgusting.
Get what you pay for
Good sized room but rather run down.
I think I had one of the best rooms in the hotel the "Malvern" but talking to other guests some rooms were very small and others no more than sheds. Window wouldn't open and it was very hot during my stay so didn't get a lot of sleep, step into room broken which could be dangerous for older or heavy person, bathroom mirror light not working, beading around glass in door fallen off. Sheets clean but very worn. Bathroom not the cleanest but not filthy. Plumbing very noisy. However in balance for the money I was not expecting 4 star and I did take my dog (who had no complaints). Pub next door served all day and portions were huge . Shame would not take a lot to smarten place up. Good location overlooking a fishing lake. I would stay there again.
A handy stop in nice countryside
Great little place overloooking fishing lakes.
Out in the sticks, but for a decent bed and a relaxing quiet stay on the way to the south coast, just right.
Not that impressed
On arrival nobody at hotel reception, collected keys from pub next door, we was taken to a room looked okay, but then found huge great spiderwebs dusty bedstead cranky bedframe springs popping out of the mattress I sleepless night.
and then delightfully found no water in the morning as the plumber had turned it off, we wasn't told what time breakfast was so we missed it . The manager kindly reduce the cost of our stay most definitely will not be returning !
The place is scruffy, untidy and needs a good clean up.
Dirty ashtrays full of old cigarettes left outside the rooms. The plumbing is noisy and the cold tap leaked all the time. Light bulbs not working in the rooms, bar and dining room. The place was looking neglected. Very over priced and we shall not use laterooms to book a place again if this is the standard. Very poor
The only good thing was the food, but last orders were at 8.30pm and we had to pre book the meal to guarantee to get it!
Value for money
Staff very friendly & food excellent, still trying to work breakfast off
I prefer somewhere with a bit of character, which the Watersmeet has in abundance.
The only downside is that some rooms are better than others (I had to request to move rooms), but if you have one of the double rooms overlooking the fishing lakes, which my colleague did, then you should be fine. The place is a friendly pub with 3 fishing lakes and a restaurant that serves fantastic food, which made it for me since it stands alone on the edge of a small village in lovely countryside. I think that if they could only invest in a make-over on the accommodation this could be a really fabulous place. The staff were extremely friendly- plenty of parking & easy to find. May well return.
