Tired rooms

We arrived at 2pm to meet friends for lunch prior to booking in.

Bar area was nice. 1 member of staff was taking food orders, running the bar, delivering food orders and booking people in. She was absolutely lovely and a credit to this tired establishment (take note owners praise should be given here!) Checked into the room and found worn and filthy carpet, mouldy window frames and nets, bathroom so small that you had to back into the toilet space and the toiket roll holder was jammed in over the sisten. Cold water for a bath. No plug sockets anywhere near a mirror. Mirror so high on wall you could not sit to do makeup or hair (important for us girls!). Bed was comfy though. Breakfast was poor. Breakfast was not good everything was over cooked, and coffee was cold.

Very pleasantly surprised!

Was a bit concerned about booking a hotel just on the basis of location for a relatives wedding reception but needn't have worried.

The staff were very friendly and helpful, the food excellent and the grounds looked lovely even in the rain. Little things mean a lot - biscuits with the tea maker, breakfast cooked to order and large bath towels. Would definitely recommend if you are in the area.
