Could do better.
A prime location and facility in need of major investment of both time and funds.
Before I go on the manager did state that the hotel was going to be undergoing in just over a month. I have noted that this has been stated to a number of individuals through out the year and dosen't appear to be on the cards of it would now be closed for the work.
On entry to the building there is no clear idea of a reception. The first part of the bar was piled high with dirty linen looking more like a Chinese laundry than a reputable establishment. The whole building inside is tired to the point of dirty and dark. The building has a bucket load of character and potential. The room was a good size with an ensuite. The carpet has obvious old blood stains. (I'm a medic, I know what dried in blood stains like). All major surfaces and ledges had a good layer of dust. The very small TV in the room was powered via an extension lead running across the room. The two bedside lamps did not work. One fell apart as it was moved. The bathroom was adequate with good hot water.
I did have a good nights sleep and the bedding was clean.
On returning to the hotel after my evening out was met by two people sat smoking in the main bar area. The place is noted as no smoking throughout. I could go on. In short the place is not currently worth more than £35. Per night very basic b+b minus the breakfast. Not the £65. Currently being asked. Better pop over the road to see a room worth £65.+ per night.
Can you survive a night in the Bear Hotel?
Friendly service unfortunately let down by a completely run down property.
This hotel needs to be closed down and refurbished.
