About the hotel
Bowlish House offers you a home from home without the hassle, but with a warm and friendly welcome. Each bedroom has its own style whilst retaining the original character of the house. There is a fully licensed restaurant to enjoy the taste of the West.
Dinner is available Monday to Saturday evenings on a pre-booking basis but unfortunately the dining room does not open on Sunday night. It is close to the Mendip hills, the cathedral city of Wells, Glastonbury, Wookey Hole, Cheddar and 18 miles from Bath. This Georgian Palladian house, classed as Grade II*, has various features of special interest – the original Mendip lead drainpipes at the front carry the crest of the original owners and the year of completion, 1732. The walls and pillars topped with urns which formed the entrance of the old gardens are also singled out for specific mention. A small spring rises under the cellar of Bowlish House and links up with an underground stream routed diagonally across the cellar floor just under the old flagstones. Thus the temperature of the large cellars is more constant than otherwise and varies by no more than 2 or 3 degrees either side of the ideal 50 ºF. Bowlish House is an interesting and peaceful location in which to escape and enjoy top quality food, or to get away from it all with friends and family.

stayed here several times over the last 30 years and always loved it but its lost something (personality!), still clean, very comfortable beds and the thickest towels but atmosphere was very subdued - breakfast was strange too we were all whispering - don't think anyone felt comfortable maybe the new owners are new to the hotel business and it's always been packed restaurant /bar wise but it was totally dead (doors locked at 10pm on a Friday!) decided to eat out came back and there was no one in the bar or anything.
Shame as its a lovely place .
