Weekend Escape

We stayed for one night at the Methuen Arms as part of a longer weekend break.

The hotel staff were excellent and very welcoming. The room was a good size and quality although it did come with a £155 per night price tag which was perhaps a little more than I would value it at. Everything was recently decorated and in very good condition. We chose to stay at the Methuen Arms as we wanted somewhere with good food and accommodation in one. At dinner, the wine selection was excellent and gave plenty of choice. The menu was good but lacked some more staple choices for those less adventurous. We had the seafood spaghetti and fish and chips. Both were good but perhaps didn't have the wow factor we were after (especially after the salt beef fritter starter which was excellent). Again the breakfast was good but lacked the wow factor. We would stay again but probably only if we were in the area. Absolutely cannot fault the staff who were very good and not intrusive.

Lovely hotel in town centre

Really lovely building.

Not the biggest room, but very nicely decorated with a lovely bathroom and very comfy bed. Staff were all very nice and helpful, couldn't fault it really. Breakfast had a good choice and used good ingredients. The cooked breakfast could have been a little better, one chipolata and an one over cooked rasher of bacon, but generally very tasty. Nice granola and fresh Orange juice.
