Reviews - Kildrummy Castle Hotel

4Visit Scotland Assessed Country House Hotel Ratings explained
Kildrummy Castle Hotel Kildrummy, Alford, AB33 8RA
Set in the breathtaking Grampian Highlands in Aberdeenshire, Kildrummy Castle Hotel enjoys an enviable location amongst some of the world's most beautiful scenery. Originally built in 1900 for a local industrialist, and converted to a hotel in the 1950s, the building retains many original Victorian features including a spectacular carved oak staircase, oak panelling, plaster ceilings and tapestry-lined walls.

The hotel offers a rare opportunity to enjoy the style and elegance of a bygone era combined with all the comforts and service of a modern, first-class hotel.

Our bedrooms are individually styled, offering a peaceful night's sleep. All bedrooms have en-suite facilities (bath and/or shower).

Since June 2012 the hotel has been personally managed by Claude Berquier, Elise Schawlb and Fiona Jamieson. They bring many years of hotel experience to the management team at Kildrummy, while respecting the traditions of Scottish hospitality.

The restaurant (Kildrummy Park) is run independently of the hotel since May 2014 and offers exquisite cuisine using top-quality local produce including Angus Beef, fresh fish and seafood from the North Sea and Moray Firth. They can also cater for private dining in the Library.

The wine list has a very extensive selection of French and New World wines offering fantastic value for money.

Beautiful setting but extremely overpriced
Lovely setting, excellent service and food. Room on the other hand was very tired and old fashioned. The hotel is very traditional but felt the room and bathroom needed modernising and for that reason the room price was very really steep, £175 and did not even include breakfast!! Would not stay here again but would definitely have a meal again as the food was excellent.

Kildrummy Castle Hotel
The hotel is in a wonderful location and setting, in the shadows of the castle and is itself, a magnificent building. The staff are most welcoming and professional, the rooms excellent and well maintained and the restaurant menu and quality of food is excellent. Recommend highly.

The only thing I missed was an appearance of Agatha Christie.

Outstanding country hotel
Very welcoming, warm, comfortable hotel! Under the previous management it had struggled somewhat. The new (French) team have transformed the atmosphere, keeping all the lovely features such as the extensive wood panelling and the large open fires, and have made it a delight. Pheasants and squirrels still feed happily on the lawn outside the dining room, and dinner and breakfast were both excellent. Our bedroom was extremely comfortable and warm with a great view of the adjacent ruined castle and the countryside beyond. The free WiFi also worked well; for some reason the hotel's own website doesn't mention the availability of WiFi, even though it's a boon for those wanting to explore the locality which is one of Scotland's quieter areas, well away from towns and even villages.

A Hidden Gem
Booked last minute, and although I was working in Aberdeen, it was worth the travel time. Best pint of McEwans I've tasted in 20-25 years. The service was excellent, and the way they have kept the rooms and all the public area's, it looks like not a lot has ever changed. Very comfortable, warm and friendly. Out there on it's own, so not for someone looking for a noisy night in or out. Ideal for travelers looking for a quiet hotel, a base to explore the region, or for a few quiet romantic nights away. Did not have time for evening meal, but the breakfast was first class.
