Great food but poor accommodation!!
Reading previous comments about peoples stays in this "pub with rooms" lead me to believe that the rooms would be of high quality and luxurious.
On arrival, the outside signs leading up to the pub are tired and ripped. Inside (the downstairs area), is a quaint pub with log burners and a good range of drinks available. The food was fantastic, completely faultless and the service I received from the hostess (Rebecca I believe) was second to none. She was friendly, polite, attentive and nothing was too much bother.
However going upstairs to the room was another story. I stayed in room 2 (the one with bath in the centre of the bathroom). That was where the luxury ended. The carpet was full of stains and had clearly not been hoovered (hence large clumps of hair that was not mine near the mirror). The wine glasses provided in the room has lipstick marks on them and the cups for the coffee, well the spoons were stuck to the bottom of them. The windows opened (albeit rather wobbly) but they did not stay open and I resulted to using a cushion to prop open the window for some fresh air.
In the bathroom was a huge bath in the centre of the room, which was, I have to admit, lovely. But the rest of the bathroom was just so dirty. The bathroom cabinet was falling to pieces and the walls were covered in dirt. Throughout the duration of my stay I didn't once see the managers/owners to discuss my concerns with. A very disappointing stay but made brighter by the great restaurant and hostess.
Lovely weekend break and great hosts A+
Took a couple of days here with my partner for a well deserved break before xmas and couldn't have chosen a better place.
Hospitable, relaxed and comfortable with a great menu (thanks to Natalia). James was the perfect host. We'll definitely be back for more!
Outstanding hotel with brilliant attention from staff
I only stayed the one night and found this idyllic little place by complete accident but it's a real find.
From Rebecca, the barmaid/waitress/girl Friday to the lovely locals who made me feel right at home. I really can't recommend this place highly enough. Outstanding!
Arrived at accommodation , first impressions the place looked drab and in need of decorating , inside the bar /restaurant was pleasant enough, customer service was quite good , we were shown to our room ,it was pleasant enough defiantly not worth the £95 we had paid ,.
on looking out of the window we were greeted by the sight of an ice cream van attached to a marquee in the garden , the tables inside the marquee were full of empty bottles, we mentioned this to a member of staff , we were told that there had been a six year olds party that afternoon, ok but surely the tables could have been cleared away by the evening, food was ok , a little overpriced, every thing felt a bit grubby and in need of a good clean.
Beautiful Place & Amazing Food
Everything about our stay was brilliant.
Food was the best I have had in years. The staff couldn't be more helpful or efficient.
wonderful couples weekend retreat
We spent an incredibly enjoyable weekend away at the Iron Duke.
The room was beautiful and the food exceptional. The service was excellent and everybody was extremely accommodating and welcoming. I would recommend it to anyone
Not stayed before but was so impressed i will be back, staff / room were superb.
The room was awesome, in fact massive would be better and the ensuite bathroom was almost the same size as the sleeping area, Huge 50inch+ flatscreen was awesome.
Very clean and tidy, peaceful with no disturbances. I have paid far more for so much worse this was a real bargian booked in the morning of the stay. Bar staff were great, travelling alone, some of these places just leave you to sit at the bar/table but staff here actually chatted and made you feel welcome, they value there guests/customers unlike many others who see you as an income!.
Good room and nice food.
Perfect little hotel :)
Nice but over priced
Pro's - Nice decor - Big room - Nice bathroom - Good restaurant (I'm told) Con's - Rubbish breakfast - paper bag with a bottle of orange, cerial bar and muffin - Uncomfortable pillows - Middle of no-where so you will need a car to go and get some breakfast.
- Advertised price of £225 per night, I paid £95 and felt this was too much
Scored the quality of the food as very low, disappointing there was no breakfast offering. I'm told the restaurant is very good though.
