Reviews - Olevi Residents

This hotel lies at heart of old Tallinn. All the architectural monuments, theatres, shopping centres, restaurants, bars, and nightclubs can be easily reached on foot from here.Completely renovated in 2003, the hotel occupies a building dating back to the early 14th century. The red tile roofs, the cobblestone streets, and the sound of church bells transport the visitor to the Middle Ages. The upper floors of the hotel offer breathtaking views over the sea and the passenger port with beautiful cruise ships coming and going. Guests may enjoy a visit to the hair stylist or let themselves be spoiled in the beauty salon. The concierge is on hand to help guests order tickets for the theatre or concerts, and also offers advice on leisure and entertainment activities. He is also responsible for the service of the hotel safe and left luggage. The rooms exude an atmosphere of times past, and come with an en suite bathroom, a direct dial telephone, cable TV, and an Internet connection via W-LAN as standard

Room like a sauna!
We spent a week travelling through the Baltic states and this was both the most expensive and the worst hotel we stayed in. We were originally allocated a room in the basement of the building which was unbearably hot. There was no window, no air conditioning and the fan was broken. The porter tried to bring us a new fan but it was tiny and made no impact on the boiling heat in the room. We stuck it out for a couple of hours but literally couldn't cope and had to complain to reception.
To be fair to the staff, they were helpful and moved us to another room on the 6th floor. This had a small window so we were able to get some relief. There is no lift in the hotel, however, and the staircases are extremely steep so getting to the room was a bit of a struggle. I do not think this hotel would be suitable for anyone who is elderly as all rooms can only be accessed by climbing down an extremely tight spiral staircase, walking through a corridor of the hotel restaurant and then climbing up more staircases.
The cleanliness/state of the rooms was okay. Breakfast was fine, except that when we arrived at 8am (published opening time) on Saturday, we found that the small breakfast room was completely full with (presumably) a coach party/tour group so that there were no seats available for ordinary guests. We couldn't afford to wait for the group to finish as we had a ferry to catch, so had to grab breakfast elsewhere.
In summary, would not stay here again.
