Do Not Stay Here
We booked this hotel to relax in the facilities after Christmas shopping. We stayed on Tuesday 9th December, booking through Late Rooms.
On arrival we were given Room 340, furthest away on the Eastern corner of the Hotel. Once past the reception, and the restaurant, the rest of the Hotel was very, very shabby and was probably last decorated in the days of Basil Fawlty. The room itself was not too bad, Bathroom again a bit shabby, but it was very cold, heating hadn't come on and so on phoning Reception a convector heater was delivered, so good response and service by the friendly staff. I did note during the stay that every member of staff was Eastern European, not a problem in that they were very nice and efficient, but perhaps indicative of the Hotel policy in terms of employing people on the lowest rates possible.
We then went to use the pool and facilities. Changing rooms very worn out, poor condition, only 1 locker in the male changing room with a lock fitted.
Pool area was in a very poor condition. Roof tiles missing, pool tiles missing, paint peeling from walls, and the water was not warm, certainly not warm enough to relax in for long. It felt like a shabby outdoor lido which has been open to the elements (i.e. the Atlantic coast). We then went to use the Sauna, but this was out of order. The good news was that the Steam room was working. After this, we decided to shower and go back to the room - changing room showers were luke-warm. Back at the room, I had to lay a coat in front of the room door to seal the gap and stop the draft. Note, I could get my hand under the door, and this was a fire door fitted with an intumescent strip to prevent smoke. Luckily for us there was no fire,
After a night of broken sleep (flat roof, either rodents, gulls or squirrels, not sure which, but these were not quiet, not the Hotel's fault), I tried to have a shower. Very little water pressure from the shower nozzle, i.e. a dribble. It was not possible to shower properly. After drying I realised that the shower nozzle pipe was too long for the gap and was kinked.
Very fed up by this time. Complained to the duty manager, but this was a lost cause. In fact the only good thing was breakfast which was reasonable.
I have stayed in 'Russian' Hotels in Poland before with better facilities than this hotel. I would not stay at this hotel again, nor any others in the chain - be warned.
I have photos of the shower and the door, so am not making this up.

Great value stay
We stayed 5 nights and had a large double room which was clean and comfortable. I also used the leisure facility. It is within walking distance of the main centre.
We would stay again and recommend the Wessex Hotel.

A good stay at the Wessex, it was what I expected for the money and good food.
The room was large a clean, very comfortable with everything that you would need for a short stay. The staff were all very helpful. Not the most modern hotel but it seemed well looked after and had some character. I would stay again. No complaints at all.

Half Term treat at the Wessex
A short break at the Wessex was a a lovely tonic. The room was large enough for one person and the bathroom was enormous. The wifi worked well and I was particularly impressed by the politeness of the staff. The hotel does have a slightly old fashioned feel but it is well situated for the centre of Bournemouth. The pool was lovely to swim in.
A most enjoyable place to stay!

Few days away without the kids
A very good offer through LateRooms.com made this a tremendous value for money break.
The hotel is long established and although some may say its decoration is a bit dated, we felt that it was still on the whole well decorated with large spacious and airy public rooms. easy to enjoy a coffee or bar meal there.
Breakfast has a good choice although some parts of the restaurant were a little too warm.
Will certainly visit again especially if there is such a good deal being offered.

Three night late booking
Only standard room available as hotel was full. Very ordinary room at back and top of hotel but warm and adequate with comfortable beds and plenty of hot water. Good towels. One very 'stroppy could not be really bothered' receptionist when asked about dining arrangements but second one friendly with a smile receptionist who was perfectly accommodating. Excellent Italian restaurant on lower ground floor which made up for basic bedroom accommodation. Breakfast adequate for three star hotel but: mixed fresh fruit salad quantity insufficient for number of guests and bowl continually empty. No boiled eggs/porridge available and limited cereals. Hotel badly in need of refurbishment and redecoration in corridors, stairs and lifts.
