Central hotel that makes a good base for the area.
The hotel was a good base, with on street parking, there was usually a space but it's a shame it wasn't permit holders only.
There was a very nice gentleman manager there for most of the four days we stayed and compliments to him he was excellent very professional, however there was also a lady that took charge also and she really was shocking, on her mobile, moaning about staff ( I really don't want this on holiday!) not very professional. Cleaning staff all excellent , we didn't eat there as we we are vegan and there wasn't an option. But to be fair we didn't ask. Room was lovely very spacious.
All in all a good base, they just need to present a better image staff wise.
The area at night didn't feel entirely safe for three ladies but we tended to use the bar after nine .
Good value, friendly staff
Clean, cheap, and cheerful, a wonderful Grade II listed building, but the recent redecoration can't entirely conceal the decay beneath (new bathroom fittings sagging off the wall, etc).
Somewhat understaffed - the staff were all friendly and helpful, but it seemed like most of the time just one person did reception, bar, and even food.
We liked it - best value in town, and decor with a sense of nostalgic elegance. Well worth the visit.
