Accommodation, Excellent, very friendly and efficient staff, excellent service, food selection poor, some of menu choices not available and being a farmer was disappointed that there wasn't steak available, poor for a very nice restaurant in an establishment of this quality.
Don't Waste Your Money
Staying here was supposed to be the highlight of our one week in Scotland; we planned to stay here our last night, wanting to end our trip with a stay in a Scottish castle.
It was awful. Our room (room 28) had 4 large windows - all 4 windows were so filthy (covered in dirt and dried bird faeces) that the view was ruined. For nearly US$400 per night, you should get clean windows (or at the very least, no bird faeces). The wifi didn't work in our room (yet, their website says wifi is available throughout the hotel). While we did pick up wifi in the public areas, it was the slowest I have ever experienced (a Google search took 3.5-4 min to load, and we never once got a full website to load). Yet, the management refused to deduct any money from the cost of our room rate; if you advertise it on your website, the amenity should be available - otherwise, it's false advertisement. The bathroom mirrors were mounted so high on the wall, that I could only see my forehead (I'm 5'3"; not tall, but certainly not short). Who does this?!. The front desk staff (particularly the young 'gentleman') were rude, dismissive and/or condescending. Their behaviour was both horrible and inexcusable. Our rate included dinner in their restaurant. While my meal didn't start off well (there was a long black hair in my appetizer), the chef did apologize (the front desk staff could learn a thing or two from the chef's attitude) and the remainder of our food was outstanding; breakfast the next morning was also wonderful. The restaurant is the ONLY reason I gave this place anything above a zero rating. Clearly the staff and management don't care about repeat businsess; they are surviving on uneducated one-time tourists. Don't say you haven't been warned. Don't waste your money - stay elsewhere!!
