Excellent Accommodation

We thoroughly enjoyed our overnight stay at The Royal York.

The staff were very friendly and very attentive to all our needs. Our room was excellent even though you have lots of workmen floating about I didnt feel annoyed. Will stay again x

This was our second time staying at this hotel, having previously stayed here in 2013.

Last time we had a fantastic experience hence rebooking. Very disappointed with visit this time. Hotel was undergoing major renovations which was only mentioned in one sentence when booking. Room was disappointing for superior room, very small room. Heat was unbearable, there was no air conditioning and windows could not be opened. Reception did provide a fan upon request but was of little benefit. Rooms adjacent to ours were being renovated, there was constant drilling, sanding, banging and workmen swearing from 08.30 each morning. Communal areas were covered with fine layer of dust. Temporary reception was positioned at far end of hotel and on final day of our stay lifts were not available due to renovation work and access to reception was only available via long walk around outside of building in pouring rain and wind , not a huge problem for us as were are relatively young and fit, but would be a huge inconvenience to more elderly guests. Feel it was very wrong of hotel to charge full rates when hotel was in middle of major renovation and in total disarray, we paid 244 pounds for two nights and do not feel we had a four star experience. We love York and visit often but in future visits will not be using this hotel again.
