About the hotel
The Friary Manor is a 300 year old former vicarage and is now a family run country house hotel set in a beautiful, secluded location above a wooded valley that runs down to the sea on the unspoilt Rame peninsula. There are three acres of wooded grounds, which are delightful all year, with spring flowers through to summer, and palm trees that thrive in the warm coastal climate. Groups of wild deer, foxes and badgers are frequent visitors.
The house and grounds are in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty set on the Rame Peninsula, known as "Cornwall’s Forgotten Corner". The peninsula has many beaches to enjoy (the nearest less than 1 mile away report as the best on the south coast!) spectacular coastal scenery and unspoilt fishing villages to see country houses to visit and a wide variety of places in which to eat and drink Yet Plymouth with its city attractions and many historic connections is only 9 miles via the Torpoint car ferry or 1 mile to Cremyll foot ferry. The popular resorts of Looe and Polperro are about 20 minutes away and the world famous Eden Project only 45 minutes. All rooms have. . . . hair dryer, radio alarm clock, tea & coffee making facilities, television, Wifi Available.

Whilst this hotel maybe 2.7 miles from Plymouth as the crow flies it's certainly not by any recognised form of transport even if you are a great swimmer.
It's at least 20 miles from Plymouth on the sat nav route over the tamar bridge and only closer via the ferry but even then the ferry is about a 7 mile windy road from the hotel. The room was ok but situated next to the boiler flue was very noisy. The sheets were clean and crisp and the bed comfy but two of the 4 pillowcases were dirty. It's also a nightmare to find. Plus side nice owners, lovely countryside nice old building. I don't want to be mean because they were friendly people who stayed up late for my arrival but then I'd have been earlier if indeed it was as close to Plymouth as advertised. Not also should be made clear you ideally checks before 9 pm
A very fine hotel
We stayed at The Friary Manor Hotel for one night only.
Shame, it should have been more. The building is great with real history. The furniture is beautiful. The service is second to none. Breakfast was as good as we have had anywhere. The owner was friendly and chatty. In the evening we stood on the patio and watched a group of deer playing in the grounds, just 100 ft from us. Wonderful. Also I would like to say the Rame peninsula is under-visited and under-appreciated. Beautiful.
