About the hotel

Tucked well away from the hustle and bustle in the delightful village of Kidmore End, just 5 miles to the north of Reading, The New Inn has undergone an extensive makeover and has everything to offer from a cosy bar with an open fire to a charming atmospheric restaurant and six state of the art, extremely modern luxurious rooms. When you step through the doorway of this country pub, the outside world seems to evaporate, sweet aromas fill the air and the mind turns to thoughts of food. The restaurant couples the warmth and charm of a local hostelry with a well-crafted a la carte menu of honest hearty food as well as light lunch dishes and irresistible desserts, Every dish is created from fresh produce and cooked to order.

The high standard of cuisine extends to the service and overall experience. This delightful village inn successfully combines traditional charm with stylish sophistication. The popular bar offers real ales and a selection of bar snacks whilst more formal meals can be taken in the adjacent restaurant. Bedrooms are modern and peaceful and some have their own patios and balconies. You’ll be pleasantly surprised when you are shown to your room, it’s not something you would expect to find off the beaten path. Nice place but service left quite a lot to be desired considering the price

We stayed for just one night.

The room was nice - spacious, clean and comfortable. And the setting is also nice - very picturesque village. Our problem was really with the service. There was a large noisy party going in the garden (although the room was well insulated from the noise). But this did make the pub seem really busy and to affect service. On the evening we waited a long time to be served and then our food took even longer to arrive (and other groups seemed to get served whilst we waited). In the morning there was only one member of the team working on breakfast. Trying to take orders, cook for and serve five tables of guests. Unsurprisingly this didn't really work out too well: although he did his best, he couldn't practically handle that many guests on his own. Really needed more staff. We ended up rushing to get off even though we'd left ample time for breakfast.

A beautiful room & really friendly staff.

I stayed in the Shiraz room which is a beautiful room on the first floor, with its own balcony - where I enjoyed sitting to enjoy a cup of coffee in the morning.

The double bed was comfortable with plenty of lovely soft pillow, I slept really well. The decor of the room was gorgeous, with the exposed beams in the ceiling. The bathroom was utterly beautiful, with a lovely deep bath & shower over; I particularly enjoyed making use of the heated towel rail. The breakfast in the morning was nice, served in the cosy pub restaurant with a choice of cereals and yoghurts, full English breakfast or vegetarian cooked breakfast, as well as orange juice, tea and coffee. My only slight issues were that some of the furniture is damaged, obviously only an aesthetic concern but I did think it was a shame when the rest of the room was so lovely, the WiFi was quite intermittent and kept disconnecting (a minor concern as I was supposed to be on holiday but I had been hoping to get some work done), and the telephone on the bedside table could have done with seeing a duster. Oh, and more teabags, I drank both before I went to bed and had to resort to coffee in the morning, of which there were about ten sachets. Otherwise, a truly lovely stay and I hope to visit again in the future.
