Reviews - BEST WESTERN Royal Beach Hotel

3AA Assessed Hotel Ratings explained
St. Helen's Parade, Portsmouth, PO4 0RN
The BEST WESTERN Royal Beach Hotel...the clue's in the name! Regal style and comfort by the sea is on offer here, with Portsmouth's attractive coastal character adding to the appeal! On Southsea's promenade, we promise true 'home from home' customer care, and we'll go out of our way to make sure you don't have to! For example, reception is open 24 hours, with a lift to all floors and free porterage and parking is available. Our bedrooms are modern yet comfortable, with complimentary tea/coffee facilities, satellite television, a direct dial telephone and Internet connection. But long before you're enjoying the modern conveniences of our accommodation, you can enjoy the finest fare in the restaurant (which, by the way, serves an excellent full English breakfast too). A bottle of fine wine will make the perfect nightcap, and we have two bars and a residents lounge to enjoy it in! For outings, Portsmouth's historic dockyard, Clarence Pier and funfair and a canoe lake with model village are all nearby for family fun.

A pleasant and enjoyable stay.
Having decided last minute to visit Portsmouth, it was difficult to find a good hotel room at a decent price - luckily laterooms.com were very useful! I never really go to a hotel expecting too much, having spent a lot of my hotel stays at budget hotels and chain hotels, but I was pleasantly surprised! The decor of the interior was very elegant, the restaurant was spacious and inviting, and the staff were welcoming and accommodating. I booked a single room, and the space that came with my room was another surprise, as I wasn't expecting so much space! Was also pleased I was given a sea view room, though I wouldn't have minded any other view - this was just a lucky bonus. The room and bathroom were clean and the bed was incredibly comfortable. The hotel wasn't too noisy, even with a wedding reception happening the same night, though it helped my room was at the end of a corridor minimising noise from passers-by.
Breakfast the next morning was delicious and had a great variety, especially in cereals which was a nice difference from the standard 3 choices (corn flakes, rice krispies and Special K!). The staff there were also welcoming and I never felt rushed.
Checking out was also quick and simple and the receptionist was kind to ring for a taxi as it had decided to thunder and rain!
A delightful visit and a lovely nights stay, next time I visit Portsmouth in the future I will definitely be calling on this hotel!

Great spot, lovely staff.
Stayed two nights while visiting family. Room 428 single room with city view. Own thermostat on radiator great to adjust the heat to your liking. Tea, coffee, iron and board. Very clean, slept really well. Fab location right opposite South Pier. Lovely walk along the front, cut across the common at the war memorial and you are at the shops. Would definitely stay here again. Next time will book sea view room.

Late booking
The only negative side to our stay was the lack of car parking. However, upon arrival, we did arrive later than planned, but the Staff were very helpful the room clean and larger than we expected with adjacent sitting room.
We ate out in the evening so unable to comment on Dinner, but Breakfast next morning was very good and the staff in the restaurant could not do enough to help you.
Overall a very good stay.

Did the job
The room was seriously hot when I first got there, the radiator was on max output, way too high!
However, once I'd turned it down and let some air in, the little room was perfectly sufficient for my needs. Everything was clean and the attention to detail was top, the shower was good, the bed was comfortable.

Very well presented hotel, reminiscent of the days gone by. I felt that I was like Victorian gentry.

Fab stay
Enjoyed my stay at best western.
Enjoyed a meal in bar very friendly and attentive.
Would return again lovely sea view room.
My only criticism on checkout felt the receptionist wasn't very interactive.
Just took my money never asked if we enjoyed our stay or goodbye.

A nice hotel
There are not many good hotels in Portsmouth at a decent rate, this one is both decent and reasonable. The only bad part is parking, being disabled, it helps if I can park in a disabled bay but the prvate contractors who stay here ignore that and also have no compunction in blocking your car in. Be advised, if you ask them to move, it will be done with ill grace.
