Uncharacteristically poor stay
The reviews of this little hotel are excellent, as is the price for the centre of London; however, I had a very poor night at the Thanet.
I was given room 17 in the basement, the room was clean if a little tired aesthetically. The bed was very comfortable and there was plenty of room, i was expecting a single and had a double bed so no complaints there.
When I arrived back from my evening out at about midnight I went to bed to find that the staff room next door had a television blaring out right next to my head. It took me until 0130 to get it turned down, and even then after banging loudly on the door no one came out to apologise, the volume just petered out.
I was woken up before 0700 by doors slamming and every time anyone flushed a loo or had a shower the water seemed to run down the pipes in my room, so i got up tired and a bit grumpy. Then the shower was tepid at best. I felt sorry for the owner because I had a justified moan at her and she seemed genuinely surprised and took some money from my bill.
So, this does seem like a nice hotel. It's cheap and central, but avoid the basement room at all costs. My friend slept upstairs and had a great nights sleep. Breakfast was fine.
Just needed somewhere cheap and less glam, this was exactly that.
It you want a 4star then this would disappoint But was a simple single room on top and did the job..
