Lovely cosy traditional English pub with spacious rooms
The pub/hotel is in a lovely old fashioned building with views on to a common.
The pub part is cosy yet with plenty of room. We stayed for one night as it was near the Harry Potter experience ( 15 minutes drive) and would definitely recommend it for any one visiting it, it's also about 40 minutes from Whipsnade zoo. The rooms were large and comfortable. My only criticisms would be that for the price paid there should have been more free toiletries and more than two tea bags in the room. If you stay here bear in mind the kitchen closes at 10. As we got back too late to eat here we ate at the Indian restaurant a couple of minutes away which serves food until 11, it was delicious and excellent value so would recommend. Breakfast at the hotel was fresh and promptly served. Would stay again though it is rather expensive.
Amazing for potter fans!
Very close to Harry Potter studios, like 10minute drive away.
Got back from the tour at about 8.30, and already had a table booked in the restaurant for 9pm (I recommend you book as it gets very busy!) good was amazing and service was fantastic, we were super hungry so good coming quickly and hot was well received. Good value too- 4 of us two courses and a bottle of wine for ~£70, and it was very nice. Rooms are a little tired looking but very clean and grounds are gorgeous. If you have kids, bring a frisbee or a football- the green outside the hotel is huge and great to blow off steam, all in view of the picnic tables outside the hotel. Breakfast until 9am only and checkout at 12, so plenty of time to get ready next morning. We missed breakfast but the local town has gorgeous coffee shops that serve breakfast - we chose a cafe next to a sweet shop and it was lovely. All in all a great visit, perfect for what we needed and my only criticism is that the rooms could be a bit more modern.
I've stayed here many times but I'm not sure I will again.
The location is great - and, because of that the pub will always do well. But the food was barely warm, half the menu was unavailable and bar service almost non-existent. It feels like management has taken its eye off the ball.
Beautiful place to stay
This place was not only an ideal location for the visit we had planned to the Warner Brothers Studios, but the location itself was a stunning little village.
The staff were very pleasant and helpful. I would definitely recommend this hotel for anyone looking for a nice relaxing peaceful place to stay.
Cheap & Cheerful
Big enough room, all the necessary facilities, plenty of sockets.
Bathroom dated, shower strong and hot, shower curtain thin and flimsy, sticking to me and in my way all of the time. Reasonable cost for that area of the country.
A very friendly place. Great room, service was fantastic, would recommend
The second bed was broken at the bottom, but didn't cause my son an issue.
Very comfy beds had a great nights sleep after visiting Harry potter
Harry potter stop over
The hotel is in a pleasant little village opposite the green, it is a nice pub hotel with good food and drink the room are ok but in need of a freshen up, also the bed was very wide but far to short and in need of new mattress's.
Arrived on sunny Sunday afternoon to find the hotel is in a lovely setting.
There were lots of people enjoying the sun, having picnics, playing Frisbee and a cricket game on the common opposite. Hotel was very busy serving meals - great selection on menu and enjoyed a good meal. Room excellent - comfortable bed and unexpected extras (fan, extra heater, iron and board). Staff were very helpful. Overall a great stay.
Nice room, helpful service and the surrounding village and woodlands are a delight to explore.
Very friendly people and lovely place to stay even though its rather quiet.
