Oversold and Overrated

This is not a pub hotel.

This is a pub with rooms above. The accommodation was far too small for comfort and all round tired and dingy. Breakfast time of 7.30am to 8.30am is completely user unfriendly, hence we did not eat there. A completely forgettable experience and well overpriced at £125 per night.

Very disappointing accommodation, but close to city.

Not as it looked or read online.

It's poor value for the money. The only good points are it was close to the City(5 min stroll),and some nice pubs and restaurants close by.

Delapidated hotel

If it was not for the friendliness of the manager at this hotel, I would not have wanted to stay at all.

He was the one positive thing during our stay. We were put in the annexe where the leather sofa and bar stool were ripped and tatty. The oven door was broken and there were bits of mismatched furniture. Upstairs lights in the bathroom were not working, but even that could not hide the black mould and the filthy shower curtain and dirty floors. Fortunately the bed linen and towels were spotlessly clean . This room was billed as home from home,.... I'm not sure what sort of home the author lives in, but I shall not be visiting again.

the old black horse on a hot night!

The main 'plus' with the Old Black Horse was the convenient location for local historic sites eg Magdalen and other colleges,Botanic gardens etc.The landlord was there to greet us on arrival, and later gave us a map to help find our way round Oxford.

Our ground floor room was called a flat by the landlord, and was reached via an outside door and private car park.On a busy road,so noise from traffic and people during the night could be a problem.Although the flat had a brand new bathroom and kitchenette, the bedroom was very 'dated' and in need of complete refurbishment. It was a very hot summer's day(and night) and the bedroom window would not open and the room was extremely hot. Breakfast was served in the pub itself and was satisfactory.
