Booked to stay for 2 days whilst attending a wedding locally.
Rooms are above a very large pub. Ou room although clean was very tired, but the shower & toilet room was in a very bad state and definitely in need of a complete refurbish. We booked to eat in the restaurant at 7.30 - by 8.45 we still hadn't even got our starters - the staff did keep apologising, saying there was a problem with the chef. Eventually we were asked if we minded having our starters and main course served together - and they arrived just before 9. There were no vegetable /sag side dishes to accompany tandoori chicken & rice (menu said chips?) so I ordered the risotto which was unlike any risotto I have ever seen or tasted, so I left it. We did ask to see whoever was in charge but were told they were not there, however shortly afterwards we saw a man appear and go into the kitchen, he then came and introduced himself to us as the Manager. He was also full of apologies, blaming problems on the chef, and offered to deduct the cost of our drinks from our bill. Incidentally both the tables either side of us also waited for this length of time to be served, (drinks were also deducted from their bills). There was a slip of paper in our room to be handed in as soon as possible with our breakfast choices" Choice was very limited cereals, fruit juice, 2 eggs with toast and tomato, 4/5 different choice of omelet?) or full English(no detail). We picked the full English which was 2 eggs/2 x streaky bacon/2 sausages/2 slices toast/half a tomato & beans (no choice was offered as to what (full English) was / not even a choice of how we'd like our eggs cooked. When checking out, my husband asked for a print-out of the bill - he pointed out to the same Manager that he had agreed to deduct the cost of the drinks for Friday evening. Again, he was full of apologies and remembered that he had indeed agreed to that. Had we not have been attending a wedding on the Saturday which meant we were out for the day and not back until very late, then we certainly would have counted our losses and looked to find alternative accommodation. We loved the quaint & lovely village of Iffley, with it's beautiful church and walks along the river, but what was otherwise an enjoyable weekend was spoilt by our stay in the Tree Hotel.
We had a lovely weekend staying in this hotel.
The rooms were clean and bright. The staff were all friendly and welcoming. The breakfasts and evening meals were excellent. The hotel is situated in a very nice village close to a lock and lovely canal walk. The taxi into Oxrod was £8 between us ..bargain !
Nice and friendly.
Mainly a pub accommodating entertainment for evenings.
I found my room quiet enough not to be disturbed and comfortable enough to get a good nights sleep. It could do with a fresh lick of paint but on the whole was clean and tidy. The staff were friendly and food was very nice with a selection of English and Indian dishes. On the whole I would recommend a stay and would certainly use it again myself.
Very nice spacious family room, bathroom a bit basic, Pub/restaurant with rooms rather than a hotel.
Very friendly staff.
Friendly staff but poor quality room, definitely not value for money
Unfortunately they had an event on so we weren't given that much attention but they were friendly. The room had mould on the shower curtain, there was a handle missing on the drawer, batteries missing from the tv remote, the bed was uncomfortable and the towels smelt musty. We could smell cigarette smoke coming in through the window and the event downstairs went on loudly until midnight. We were awoken by what sounded like a doorbell or fire alarm in the morning. Because there was an event going on which you had to buy tickets for we were unable to have dinner in the hotel and had to go out to get food. The room was valued at £91, I very much begrudge paying full price, nearer £50 would be better. I didn't have the chance to express my feelings and request a discount as I was quickly dealt with as the gentleman on the bar was busy and didn't engage with me. I would appreciate recognition of my poor experience.
When arrived we weren't seen to for a good 20 minutes but apart from that the hotel was quite decent and good for what was needed (a place to stay for two nights as I was going to a gig one of the nights).
Check your booking!!!
We arrived at the hotel, having booked months in advance online to find they did not have our room reserved.
Although they accepted it had been their error and immediately attempted to offer other accommodation nearby we ended up searching elsewhere (the dial house to be precise, which was decent enough). I would strongly recommend you double check your reservation before travelling.
Dated furnishings, tiles broken in bathroom, terrible shower more of a trickle.
Trying hard, but tired
The bedroom I stayed in was very run down, wallpaper hanging off, furniture looks worn out, in need of some TLC.
Staff very nice, food nice, evening meal & breakfast lovely.
