Very good for a Hilton

I saw review that described this as quirky.

I disagree. It's a Hilton and Hilton don't do quirky. However, it managed to rise above the blandness that I have come to associate with Hilton and be a nicely appointed and friendly hotel. I knew this many years ago as the Garden House hotel, and saw it as really posh. It's not quite that slick any more but its perfectly pleasant. Nice big room with balcony, staff all very friendly to us and our children. Swimming pool ok but smaller than it looks in the pictures. Great breakfast. Tired bathroom.

Is this hotel suitable for a holiday

If you are only staying one night and are content to live out of a suitcase you can manage.

There was no chest of drawers in the room to unpack clothes into. The limited hanging robe was only just jacket length and would not accommodate a ladies dress. Hopeless for a wedding function. No bath robes were provided and the hair dryer was barely warm on maximum and not suitable for a blow wave. The bathroom was large enough to have a separate shower cubicle, but there were none in any of the hotel rooms. Not satisfactory for an elderly person with balance problems. I do not consider this hotel justifies a 5 star rating.

Doubletree stay

I was disappointed that there was no complimentary water in the rooms.

Most hotels of that price offer free water and a better selection of teas and coffee in the room. The hotel was really nice and the price reflected it's prime location.

Lovely hotel

Stayed in the penthouse and whilst it was lovely, the outside let it down, also slightly dated

I stayed at the Hilton Doubletree Cambridge for 1 night as part of a weekend away.

Upon arriving at the hotel I was extremely disappointed to be told that it would cost £19.50 to park my car in the hotel car park for the night and that there was no discount available for hotel residents. I was also extremely disappointed to find that, having paid for a room, which I considered to be expensive in comparison to other hotels that I regularly stay in on business, free wi-fi was not included and that I was expected to pay £12-15 for this. I complanied to Reception about the wi-fi cost and was immediately given a code for free wi-fi. Given the cost of the accommodation and the cost of additional extras I at least think wi-fi should be provided free of charge, as it is now in many other hotels. I also think there should be discount available on parking for hotel residents. I left feeling that extracting the maximum amount of money from guests was the priority rather than providing excellent customer service.
