Character property in a good location close to amenities.

Extremely warm welcome at this charming property.

Large triple room with comfy beds & white linen. Smelled clean & fresh. Delicious breakfast cooked fresh to order. Also offered smoked salmon with scrambled eggs as a nice change to the full English.

Stunning Location

I chose the Thanet Hotel as the perfect location for an overnight stay in London with my daughter.

On arrival we were met with such a warm welcome and were delighted to be informed our room had a balcony overlooking the garden. What a bonus to look out onto an enormous Plane Tree. We were impressed with the overall comfort and ambience of the hotel. The staff were so helpful and friendly -even loaning us an umbrella for the day. Nothing was too much trouble, The hearty breakfast was excellent too.

Nice Hotel and Great Location

The staff were extremely helpful and friendly.

The accommodation well located. My room was small but adequate and clean. All in all a very good experience.

pretty good, but some points of concern

This is my own opinion, meant as constructive It’s fair to say that I rarely stay in a hotel, but London is my old stomping ground.

You can find many hotels including a “national chain” that offers a single room, en suite for £70. Time wasn’t on my side though, and considering the competition, I thought a private hotel would suit, though you may pay a little more, it should be worth it. So to Russell square, and the Thanet Hotel

I had booked online through and specifically asked for a soft bed (noted on my booking acnowledgement five days before)

This is a family owned hotel in a beautiful area. It is small, I reckon some 20-30 rooms. Clean on greeting an attentive porter (I presume) handed my key, and said “first floor, on the right, through the door”. It was a single room that was twice the side of the bed (dresser included) and most importantly, all clean. I was late for my appointment, so a quick refresh and straight out. The shower was barely two foot square, with solid walls on three sides, but adequate if you are not over-size, or claustrophobic sufferer.

On my arrival back I was very tired, and learned that my bed was “a solid brick”. After a fully disturbed nights sleep (What if I suffered from back pains...even worse), I was informed that “there were no soft mattresses in the hotel”. (Why didn’t the hotel advise me “on receipt of the booking,” that they couldn’t accommodate me with that request).

Breakfast was pleasant, full english, variance in toast not offered (brown or white), though others had brown. A young couple came in with a baby, but there were no high chairs visible, so the buggy was brought in (an inconvenience to guests and other visitors). Message reads “please do not bring kids here”.

There was no change to the price (nor a visit from the owners), so it appears the owners were not informed of the bed situation..

Ideal base for city break

This hotel gave us a perfect base for our brief city break in London as it was a short walk from/to tube & bus links.

The standard of room was very good - clean, well furnished & good quality. Breakfast was fresh, there was a good choice & the cooked breakfasts were freshly cooked. Staff were efficient & polite.

Two minor improvements that would help me:

1) start serving breakfast earlier (7am)

2) provide shower gel in rooms

Friendly staff and clean room in excellent condition

I stayed at this hotel for 3 nights and always found the staff to be helpful and friendly.

My room was extremely clean and comfortable, but definitely on the small size. The only negative for me was that the window was single glazed and so at times I could hear the traffic outside.

Lovely hotel, set on a very pretty road and well situated for theatres and touring London.

Very nice room at the back overlooking the garden with a lovely balcony.

Peaceful setting, and a delicious breakfast to wake up too. Owners were especially friendly on welcoming and departure.
